Chain too tight: what damage if I ride bike?

Occasionally. I just ground a notch into an old flat head screw driver, so it engages more of the adjusting cam and doesn't mess up the teeth... then tap with hammer.

    Bandit 1200 Engine problem

Confirm this by putting a little oil in the spark plug hole and trying the compression test again. If the compression pressure increases you've narrowed the problem down, if not keep looking.

10/10/2013 403 WB just past Aberdeen.

It is very sobering to ride past something like that. I was riding in to work, very unsettling to pass a bike on its side and see the helmet on the ground beside it. The fog was surprisingly thick. Thoughts are with his family.

    GPbikes return policy

The reason restocking fees are sometimes not enforced is that the retailer is taking the part/accessory/whatever back and will be able to resell it fairly easily. If they have to send it back to the supplier, the supplier charges the dealer/retailer 25%. No business will accept that loss...

    left cylinder misfire

Start with this. Then check spark on both cylinders. Then if everything comes back good, pull the carbs and clean them properly.

HELP! - Terrible Fuel Efficiency on SV650s w Power Commander

I appreciate the lessons in both the technical aspects and humility. I don't take it personally that you pointed it out the way you did it's always good to be reminded that not everyone knows everything. You had every right to reply the way you did, thank you.

HELP! - Terrible Fuel Efficiency on SV650s w Power Commander

... Sigh. The speed sensors on the front and rear wheels are only used by the ABS computer to calculate slip. The speedometer on the dash still gets it's signal from the speed sensor under the airbox, reading off the transmission rotational speed, and will be affected by final drive ratio changes.

Waste of money doing valves before 24,000km?

I have check valves on tons of bikes and adjusted more than a few... I have not found a corelation between riding style and valve adjustments yet. Are your valve clearances out of spec? Probably not. Is it worth checking? Yes it is. The cost of doing the job now is signicantly less than if you...

Man Buys Motorcycle Over Wife's Objections, Dies After Three-Mile Ride

That statistic is only true because based on the cost of the bikes and insurance, that age demographic is just about the only one who can actually afford to ride...

    My bike gave up

This is entirely correct, keep in mind: in prime (if the bike is equipped) it draws from the lower "reserve" pickup. Meaning if you drive around in the prime position and "run low" on gas, you are actually completely empty and stuck. My guess: out of fuel and the continued cranking on the...

    Girlfriend doesn't like motorcycles

My wife said she does not like bikes, will not ride, doesn't like that I ride... etc. Riding is part of my life, as I work in the motorsports industry it is part of my job too. I told her from the get go: you don't have to like it, but it's not going to change. For years she hated bikes. I...

While changing clutch something broke off

Some bikes also use the clutch safety switch input to determine what fuel strategy to use... for example if you bypass a Triumph clutch switch, it will run so rich it will clog the catalytic converter. This is to prevent that silly after-fire pop and help slightly with emissions. To the OP: yes...

    Rosey Toes Safety?

I have spoken out against the flat rate system more than once. And I refuse to run a shop that uses it, however I have work at shops that do use it. It is an interesting problem... The flat rate system is flawed right from the get go. It breeds poor workmanship by rewarding techs who finish the...
