The argument is that motorcyclists are intended to use both at the same time so the light needs only be connected to one. Possibly just poor wording in that section. Same wording in the motorcycle section 6 as in the Spyder section ;)

We have some interesting terms in other legislation as well - try 'wanton and reckless disregard' in the criminal negligence definition, or 'marked departure' in dangerous driving. Some of our laws are subject to interpretation like that. Even our prosecutors are reluctant to get into the...

thanks for the advice. I'll try to set up another thread somewhere. I doubt that the police would do a check like that on private property unless permission was granted by the owners. If they are doing a spot check at the entrance to the property, they are treading on thin ice in my view. The...

I can say from my perspective that when I turn the lights on and the riders stop, I am very lenient with them. On the other hand, I am less likely to be lenient when I have to use my bike to force them to the shoulder, or call another car ahead to slow traffic down so I can get closer. The act...

I get the grey area argument, I do. I take that as 'areas of the law open to interpretation'. One officers perception of an incident vs. someone else's. There are so many ways to be charged under this section, it might help to be specific. The over 50 definition is the biggest one, I would...

The difference between a stunt driving charge and a speeding ticket is the suspension and impound. Otherwise, it's still just a charge that can be argued in court. Alcohol in excess of 0.00 for novice and young drivers, and over 0.05 for full class drivers will get a roadside suspension...

Negative. As long as one of your brake pedal or lever activates the brake light, you're good to go. It only really seems to be a problem with the custom chopper crowd trying to eliminate wires from their bikes' handlebars.

I can't speak for insurance rates, I know they're high for certain classes of bikes and riders. Been there. As for Bill 203, I wouldn't hold your breath on that one. There were some good changes as a result of that particular Bill, most notably, the warn range suspensions that are now tracked...

It's intentional Mina! I'm trying a new approach and will see where it goes. I have had too many experiences with motorcycles fleeing (and crashing). If I can start some dialogue before it becomes a game of cat and mouse, maybe we can save a life, or at least prevent a ton of paperwork for me...

    Electric bike repercussions

Let's just say that the MTO has never responded to any of my recommendations. I'm not asking for a new Schedule 611 here, just a simple line that says that when you apply your front brake lever, the brake light has to go on.

My experience in dealing with motorcycle riders has been that the ones who generate the most traffic complaints are the ones who ride excessively fast, wheelie, lane surf, lane split, and ride on the shoulders. With the exception of the shoulder riding, it has always been sport bikes, has always...

My approach is to police what I see, not necessarily what the management wants to enforce. Don't get me wrong, I will write tickets for seatbelts, but I prefer to spend my time in traffic with everyone else and not standing on ramps.

True enough. One of the best parts of my job is that I can educate cagers right then and there. Last year I was just behind a KLR rider who almost wound up being a part of a BMW that changed lanes and almost hit him. The BMW driver got a quick lesson on how to shoulder check and a written...

    Plating an Enduro

I don't work for Service Ontario but from what I know about the process - if you are buying a second hand bike that is blue plated, they will allow you to re-plate it in the same fashion. If you have a dirtbike (offroad, green plates), you will not be able to get it blue plated by buying a Baja...

    M Test Soon;) Advice?????

Obey the speed limit, use signals, shoulder check in a noticeable way. If you are passing a playground, look at it to check for kids, same goes for schools or other landmarks. When ramping on to a highway, signal early and let it flash for a while before making your lane change. Good luck!

don't forget can-ams, they literally re-wrote a section of the HTA for those things.

I haven't seen a train horn on a bike yet, I'm guessing there are some size limitations there. And just for the record, I am not a 'hide in the bushes' kind of guy. I prefer to hide out in the open. I have found that the people that truly need to be policed don't notice where I am no matter what.

    License plate cover

You 'could' be ticketed for the plate cover if it obscures the plate. If it's dirty, has a border or something that covers the validation sticker, has a dark tint, etc. Usually see this charge when it's really bad. I don't see many motorcycle plates that are pitting/fading because they aren't...

    Electric bike repercussions

I've personally dealt with one individual who showed up for his Ident (fingerprints/photos) for his drive while disqualified charge, on an e-bike, only to leave with a second charge for the same.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Lots of questions there, I'll try my best: - traffic complaints can be dealt with through 911 call takers if they are ongoing, if not Roadwatch is a good place to go. Not all jurisdictions have Roadwatch however. If you're not concerned about an immediate problem...
