2013 touring: where are the CLOSEST mountain roads to Ontario?

Just moved from Montreal (and definitely miss my day rides in the mountains). For riding in Quebec, there are a few options North of Montreal. I personally don't go up to Mont-Tremblant, to many tourists and the roads are not worth it but just before, there is a nice loop that is worth it...

What happens if you text your parents...

I love the one where he says "2 grammar books" and his mom answers "do you need more money?" :D

Need to get Safety Standard Certificate

I had it done since then at Rider's Choice (was quite in a rush because the bike was moved from Montreal and had to get insurance and plates transferred quickly). I paid 75$ for it I think.

Need to get Safety Standard Certificate

I went there back early in March and Rosey couldn't do it my safety inspection but said he should have his authorization back at some point in April or May.

Copy of the M Test (M2X) checklist!

Re: M2X test in Brampton Thanks for the info. I tried to go there last Saturday and there was such a long waiting line that I gave up as soon as I walked in the door.

Copy of the M Test (M2X) checklist!

Re: M2X test in Brampton I'm not worried at all about the test. I did it 2 years ago in Quebec and have since then put over 40,000 km on my bike. When I moved to Ontario, they told me I haven't had a full motorcycle license for 24 months (I was at 20 months) so they downgraded me to an GM2...

Copy of the M Test (M2X) checklist!

Re: M2X test in Brampton Yes for other locations, it offers me a choice of date/time, it's only at the Brampton location. I guess I will call in tomorrow to see if and when dates will be available at the centre.

M2X test in Brampton Has anyone been able to book a M2X test at the Brampton DriveTest Centre this year? I've been trying to book an appointment using the online system for a little while and it always tells me that there are no time slots available and to try another centre.

    Passenger age?

"protect during normal riding" refers to the child falling asleep and not holding on to anything (which I've seen multiple times). Again, my experience is based on long rides (>200 km). The safest place to be is to leave the child at home. From that point on, there are way to improve on the...

    Passenger age?

The child is attached to the parent not the bike. At that point however, I'm not sure which one is best between having the kid fly on it's own or with the parent. Proper gear is still required. The point of the harness is to protect the child during normal riding (which hopefully is all it will...

    Passenger age?

With the handlebar, your kid has to hold on it all the time. The harness has the advantage of making sure whatever he does, he'll stay on the bike and in a good position. Again, it all depends how long you are riding for. My experience comes from 300-400 km days with my friend and her son on...

    Portable stand (Packjack)

Yesterday (after my 530 km ride :D) wanted to lube my chain and I had a hard time putting the bike on the stand. My cheap 49,99$ stand is all crocked after 3 years of abuse and I'm worried I'll end up dropping the bike. I'll replace it this year with a Pit Bull but was looking at another...

    Passenger age?

Reaching the pegs + helmet is the minimum and would be ok but just a quick around the block ride. For longer rides however, the child safety harness is great (something like that http://www.t-jridingbelts.net/id57.html) as it ensures your kid will stay on the bike. Last suggestion from a guy...

    donor card

Definitely a donor, this is a no brainer question to me. If I can help someone in need after I die, I don't see why I wouldn't. As a motorcyclist I know too well that there in a severe accident where there is no hope for my own life, some of my organs could allow someone else to enjoy their...

Does our licensing system need a change?

The system might be far from perfect but I still prefer it to the system in Quebec where I got my license. Similar to here you start with a written test then get a restricted license that allows you to ride as part of a mandatory riding course which involves 20 hours of parking lot and 4 hours...

Copy of the M Test (M2X) checklist!

I'm not sure I understand the MTO system for appointments (first time I use it). I looked at all centres in the central region to schedule my M2 Exit and the only thing available is 8:55AM sometime in July in Aurora.... Will there be more dates offered earlier than that and at other centres at...

    So.... Who's Riding This Week????

Out yesterday for a short 60 km (I had to get a safety inspection done first to exchange my Quebec license plate for an Ontario one), it was rough like if I couldn't remember how to ride. Today, 300 km in the Niagara region was really nice. Thats a good way to start the season :)

    Moving downtown, where to park?

On top of the safety issue, within the City of Toronto, an unsigned maximum three-hour parking limit exists on public roads unless there is signage posted indicating otherwise (eg, maximum 1 hour parking, maximum 15 minute parking, etc.). As per transportation services, parking for an excessive...

Copy of the M Test (M2X) checklist!

Just finished reading through 30 pages... I just moved to Ontario and was granted a M2 as an equivalent to my full license in Quebec. I did the road test 2 years ago over there and will go my M2 exit this spring. I just hope I didn't pick to many bad habits but I have over 40000km of experience...
