Curiousity: Where do you hold onto the handle bar?

Where do I hold onto the handle bars? To be honest, most of the time I don't: for my left hand, I cover the clutch a lot in case I need to disengage it quickly, and my right hand is usually in a position that would better be described as lightly curled around the right grip thanks to my Throttle...

    Cell Phone Company Help

Can't offer much advice about carriers (they all suck) but if you're buying an iPhone, don't buy yet. The iPhone 5 (might be branded as the 4S or something, we'll see) will be coming out in the next month or two.

When are helmet lines usually released?

I was at my local bike shop of choice and was discussing buying a new helmet with the staff. Their recommendation was that I should wait "a while" because helmet manufacturers would soon announce the next year's line of helmet styles, meaning that discount's on "last year's" models would be...

    Tricks for beating traffic

Not only are you splitting hairs, but you're missing some scraggly ones. Please note: 'the lawful rate of speed' does NOT always mean 'the posted speed limit on the road'. There are times when the lawful rate of speed is under the speed limit.

    Tricks for beating traffic

Just to be clear, these are merely social conventions, correct? I haven't seen anything in the HTA that gives particular lanes the described purposes.

    Tricks for beating traffic

The thing you overlooks is that BECAUSE we're governed by the same laws as cars we're allowed to legally do some things that wouldn't fly while driving a car. Many laws in the HTA are written with clauses stating that this or that maneuver is only legally permitted 'if the movement can be made...

Help: GS500F Valve cover oil leek, need advice.

Just yesterday, I noticed that my bike seems to have developed a slow oil leak from the gasket underneath the valve cover. The leak seems to be centred around the front right half-circle shaped portion of the gasket, but I can't really say certain yet: when I discovered it, there was some oil...

Riders throat cut by fishing wire strung across intersection

Living in a particular place (for instance, Fir Valley Court) doesn't make you a member of any particular race, so having a negative opinion of people from a place doesn't make you racist. That's just bad logic. People can live in Fir Valley court and be of any race, disliking them isn't racist.

    Cabbies.

Downtown, even if a cab does manage to get in front, I usually find it pretty easy to slide up in the lane to their right at a stop light and get back in the lead when it turns green. They'll nearly always pick the left lane (left-er straight ahead lane, not left turn lane) at a light since the...

ferrying a new bike - considerations?

Doesn't it just cover anyone the owner allows to ride it? I.e., if the bike gets stolen the insurance doesn't cover the thief, does it?

    Have you ever 'ratted'?

Let's say you're riding the street, and you see another rider doing something something flagrantly illegal and dangerous - not just something that they could get a pain-in-the-*** ticket for, but something that makes you genuinely concerned for their safety (no helmet, driving against traffic...

There are beginner friendly 600cc bikes???

In your first post you seem a little confused: 600s, which are usually 4-cylinder bikes, are what beginners are warned away from. The 650s, which are usually twins, aren't so bad.

    Anyone smoke whilst riding?

I smoke constantly while riding - it's pretty much a step in my standard launch routine, following physically mounting the bike and preceding fastening the helmet and gloves (which are probably sitting on the tankbag at this point).

    ATV-riding cop on the sidewalk?

Today while riding down Leslie, between McNicoll and Finch, I saw someone riding a full size ATV down the sidewalk, and from the quick look I got it looked like it was a cop. Has anyone seen anything like this before? Why would the cops be using ATVs in the city, and why on a sidewalk? There...

Clutch adjustment = Poor engine braking.

I didn't do anything else intentionally, so if I managed to achieve anything else it was accidental... I didn't intentionally make any adjust to them, and didn't have to, for instance, move them out of the way to do any of my clutch adjustment - the stock routing is such that those sets of...

We WERE all set to start the motorcycle lifestyle...

This isn't really compatible with your safety concerns. 'fair-weather riders' who never ride in adverse conditions are the kind of riders with no idea how to handle such an adverse situation when it occurs unexpectedly. If you wanna be safe, leave this idea behind. Practice dealing with things...

    Best Burger Joint?

Second Dangerous Dan's, it's basically the best burger place in the world. It's right in Downtown TO though, so the ride's not much to speak of. Get the Kevorkian burger, it's unbeatable. Johnny's is terrible.
