building a ramp for a shipping container?

The problem is the door hardware. It looks to me that the vertical bars need several inches of clearance to swing out. For twice a year, kicking around some gravel isn't a big deal, maybe even use thin sandbags. For everyday riding I'd want something quick and easy. Never take the fun out of a...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

I was talking to a lady running an antique shop and when they buy a contents sale from an estate the China cabinets go straight to the dump. They don't pay for the floor space. They don't make great toolboxes either, IMO. Brown furniture saved us a ton of money when we bought our present home...

Part of the trestle base was made into a valet so some of my clothes don't sleep on the floor as much.

building a ramp for a shipping container?

Backing a bike downhill has its problems. Braking and steering geometries go against the normal reactions. Up is far easier. Is this a spring and fall deal, used twice a year, or is the container a daily garage? Assuming everything is level and the container sitting on the ground, a sheet of...

building a ramp for a shipping container?

Yes, it was overkill. You could have built a beer holder in a fraction of the time to hold your beer and eliminated needing someone to do it. A typical YouTube moment has a guy running his bike up a ramp, not considering the ground clearance and sharp apex, and the bike falling over doing...

Progressively wound valve springs. Which way up??

IIRC the retainer clip for the wrist pin wants to know what direction is up and down.

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Isn't it wonderful how something we thought was fantastic a decade or two ago is now so ugly. We replace solid rare hardwood with painted sawdust and glue. I bought a SOLID walnut table from Restore for $100 and used half of it to make a sofa table. Lighting throws the colour off. It'll...

Progressively wound valve springs. Which way up??

Oops I forgot to paste and copies from the net. For the forks. Valves??? The more metal you shove into the oil, the higher the oil level will rise. So they recommend the tighter wound end face up to prevent raising the oil level too much above what it would be with the stock springs installed...

Progressively wound valve springs. Which way up??

That's the logic for fork springs. I don't know if there is similar logic for valves.

    A petite rant

It seems every day there's another company or organization wanting us to relieve them of hiring a person to interact with us. "We apologize for the delay as our staff is experiencing a large volume of calls." NO, YOU ARE UNDERSTAFFED. The solution is for the company to hire more people but...

    A petite rant

I wonder what is going to happen when the stock market gets factored in. That $2390 premium isn't left sitting on a shelf; it's invested for income and used to keep the rates down. When investments tank the insurers raise rates to meet dividend needs. Payouts from major disasters get spread...
