I am a 19 year old, m1 driver... Can you tell me if this quote seems reasonable?

Where are you located? I'd say that's a great deal. In Hamilton, my first year was just under $3000 on a GS400 (398cc) and I had a perfect record -- my only/cheapest option was facility because of M1

n00b exhaust install question - heavy vibration

Lol exhaust and intake most definitely are not something to worry about insurance wise. Exhausts rot out all the time, and replacing with OEM is impractical at best on old bikes. They're concerned about superchargers, not 1hp gains from aspiration. If that were an issue, you couldn't run 91...

Anyone got 13mm valve shims I can buy/trade?

I know Ralph over at TO Cycle does shim swaps, which is totally fine, except that I live in Whitby, and Etobicoke is a pain in the arse to get to. Peterborough Cycle Salvage is pretty well the same distance (I'm sure they do swaps too, though I haven't called to check). I'd just thought I'd ask...

Anyone got 13mm valve shims I can buy/trade?

Working on my KZ750, practically rebuilding the carbs, and of course I dug into the valves. Unfortunately, some of the exhaust valves could use some new shims; most specifically, I need at least one 2.50-2.55mm shim, 13mm diameter. I've gone ahead and ordered a hot cams kit that I'll just keep...

How would insurance handle this? Closeline off bike due to "pranksters"

Actually yeah. You can make a claim against the city if a pothole damages your vehicle, for example.

I see what you're saying about third party liability still having to pay out. Ok, so that's fine, I'd be alright paying the liability cost on each vehicle (it still sucks, but for the sake of argument, let's say I'm fine with it). Why am I paying accident benefits on all my vehicles? If some...

    Google Auto Insurance

You must've had a piss-poor broker or something. My dad tells me stories of ~$600/yr insurance around 1988. Tells me he's never paid more than the $1600/year he was paying for his Harley.

    Google Auto Insurance

Actually he makes a good point. What's with the duplicated coverage? Even you must admit it's ridiculous. I can only ride one bike a time; I can only drive one car at a time. If I have 5 vehicles, it should only cost me an administrative fee to have the other 4. EDIT: I read further; you...

    Google Auto Insurance

Except that liability rates are FAR from the largest part of your premium. Accident benefits; private health insurance for you the driver and your occupants. AKA: The hidden costs of 'universal' healthcare.

    Google Auto Insurance

That whole "auto rates are regulated and the insurance companies can't increase or decrease them without approval" thing is ********. Yes, changes require approval, how stringent is the approval process? "Our CEO made 8 million, but now wants to make 15 million, so we need to raise rates". It's...

What are you paying for accident benefits?

Welcome to "universal" healthcare. People call me crazy when I suggest I'd prefer private healthcare; it's really not a stretch, most people already pay about the same premiums for private healthcare (through accident benefits) as our friends down south.

    Theft insurance claim question

This is illegal, and we should be getting mad about it. I see it all the time, and we should simply not be putting up with it. Source: https://www.fsco.gov.on.ca/en/auto/autobulletins/archives/Pages/a-06_97.aspx

    Google Auto Insurance

I am not, so I would have insurance, but there are many that would choose to go without, which drives prices down (lower demand), even though I'm paying for their stupidity (my insurance would cover damage to me and my vehicle regardless of fault). Not to mention actual COMPETITION. Also there...

Wanted: Project bike. <1000cc and <$1000

Just got a garage to myself, and my Vulcan 900 is lonely in there! Any year, any make. I'm looking for something old, simple, and nimble, to have to ride when I feel like something different, or the roads are too salty for my main bike.

    Tickets dropping off record

Nope, that's one of the neat tricks you can play. I requested a court date for a speeding ticket, got a date after my renewal, waiting til after my renewal to pay (and thereby be 'convicted') and then the next year it'll show up. It's still 3 years of a ticket on your record, and therefore 3...

Would this work on motorcycle tires?

SPOKED RIMS HAVE INNER TUBES!! Those quick fix plugs don't work. This product might let you limp home. Motorcycle tires actually run at lower pressures than a lot of bike tires, so really the only concern might be balance.

when does every one stop riding??

Dry roads, that is all. My car's in the shop right now, and it'll probably be in again for a couple days sometime within the next few months. During that time, it's all bike. That said, I work from home 60-100% of the time.

Riding to Montreal n back, any advice?

If you're going 401 to Montreal, it is *incredibly* boring. I took it the other way at the end of my NH/NB trip this year; it sucked, and I had to make rest stops for no other reason than to break up the monotony and have a coffee. I wasn't even tired, just bored out of my mind. Myself, I would...

Quebec driver who stopped for ducks guilty in fatal crash

So the car is expected to plow through the ducks, possibly damaging their car. Ok, I can accept that, since there's 4 wheels, chances are that's the most prudent thing to do. Now what if a motorcycle faced such a hazard? It's clearly *less* safe to try and squash some animals with your 2 wheels.
