    Comments re fallen riders

You can't even show road rash as a PSA here without it getting moved and deleted. Good luck turning unfortunate accidents into learning moments.

    Insurance Fraud

Yes, but the point PP (and to some degree, myself) was making was that the 22yo in Cali paying $35/mo is likely not an apples to apples comparison. Without seeing the policy and coverage we can't say for sure but I bet PP is correct in that the coverage is a "bare minimum": If that kid needs an...

    Insurance Fraud

It's probably somewhat more complex than I suggest; fewer people paying SAB premiums would mean a smaller pool from which to pay benefits for those who opt in; that would likely need to be made up for with higher premiums for these benefits. As well, people who opt out but are still critically...

    Insurance Fraud

Go look at your policy and see what costs what on it. Looking at the renewal I just received for my Aprilia, I see a premium of $1293 for 19/20. Of that: - $51 is direct comp/property damage (3.9%) - $239 is liability (18.5%) - $144 is collision (11.1%) - $54 is comprehensive (4.2%) and -...

    Traction Control FTW

I can think of no better use for "nannies" like this than inherently unstable two-wheeled vehicles on contact patches not a whole lot bigger than bottle caps, especially when the machine has some torque...

    New rider, oil change question

As long as the oil carries a JASO MA rating and is not "energy conserving" you'll be fine oil-wise. The filter P/N looks right though Fram wouldn't be my first choice. Make sure if your oil sump plug has a replaceable gasket that you have one on hand.

What should I get for my.......

It really is a shame that older bikes, even ones in good shape, don't get much love. As an aside, I sometimes wonder how a bike is ridden so little as to accumulate just 10K kms in ~18 years. That's an average of just 550 kms/year. That machine just sat around not doing much for ages...

    Italians are easier?

I've only had one Italian machine (the Tuono) and I don't think it's any easier to work on than any Japanese bike I've had. Packaging on this type of bike (or an RSV4, or an R1, or ZX10R etc) is always going to be tight; no matter the make there's a lot of **** packed into a tight area and it's...

Tory takes aim at noisy motorcycles

But seriously: Is there a law you've broken? Ever traveled in excess of 100kph on a 400-series highway, for example? Or exceed the 80kph speed limit on secondary roads? What about the 50kph limit on surface roads? Do you always come to a complete stop at stop-signs, count a couple of steamboats...

Tory takes aim at noisy motorcycles

Holy **** @Trials: Are you the guy on the 401 doing exactly 100kph coz that's what the law sez and by gum that's what you're-a-gonna-do?

Can I do my M test on Scooter

"Scooter" is kind of pejorative; unless I'm mistaken, the requirement is that a bike built after the 1988 MY not be a "limited speed" motorcycle: "All limited-speed motorcycles – also known as mopeds or motorized scooters — have a label on the steering column or under the seat. Beside the “type...

Tory takes aim at noisy motorcycles

Agree on all points. Like I said, it's possible to be safer with more sound that isn't automatically "noise" -- especially when ridden in a manner respectful of others -- in the context of this discussion. Some -- typically those types afraid to even remove the myriad manufacturer's safety...

Tory takes aim at noisy motorcycles

Haha. Sorry, is this discussion about sound vs noise or about the microscopic net emissions Canada's motorcycles contribute to GHG emissions overall? I suppose if you don't have a counter-argument to the idea that it's actually possible to make more sound, be safer and not be a nuisance you...

    Carb'd bike woes

I think you need to completely disassemble the carbs again -- take out every jet you can -- and put all the parts in a hot solvent-bath ultrasonic tank for a few hours. Fine wire is fine to run through the jets and bleeds (don't score them or make them bigger). Compressed air through the bleeds...

Tory takes aim at noisy motorcycles

Like, totally. Yes, I do take my safety as seriously as that. I don't care what lurkers, trolls, snowflakes or whomever think of my choice to selectively and respectfully engage just the second of another driver's five senses to increase my margin of safety. I've seen it with my own eyes...

Police, fire and ambulance drivers find the same idea very handy for alerting people to their presence.
