I always fill up to the metal part and then slowly top it off with about half the metal piece under gas and the rest above. This usually ends up with the tank being full when its off the stand. How much you need to drown the piece would depend on the lean angle of your bike while on a kick stand.

i don't take mine off unless i'm going to a mall, restaurant, or going to be talking to someone. i am usually the guy with leathers and helmet on groceries shopping.
don't worry about tiptoeing, if you need to park the bike, just get off and park it. if you feel really uncomfortable, then get lowering links on your first bike (dont lower it too much though).

why is having both feet on the ground so important?
