This is exactly what I would do , your dad is correct and reasonable with riding again. I'm also a father of 2, girls albeit, but I would certainly be concerned and give it a bit of time.

It always depends, however I find being smooth in corners requires not being too low in a gear. Try being in a higher gear than you think, if too tall back off one.

Man I still miss my sv650, that was one great little bike. I had it set up for track though and with a little bit of money on good suspension, you'll love the way it handles. The twin sound is pretty slick too. I'm sure your choices are all good though
