    Post your first motorized vehicle.

First Bike - Very used 2007 Suzuki GS500f - mine never looked this nice Piece of tin only lasted 1500 km before the drive spline sheared off - must have been just beat on by the previous owner. Patched it back together but then the oil pressure light kept coming on so I moved on. It served...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Call the insurance company and see if there is a difference in your annual premium price between premier and LT. Sometimes you get a significant insurance break by having the electronic nannies, so much so that over the long term you actually save money over the initial premium to buy the car.

    Working out! Fitness! Nutrition!

For the first 3 weeks eat normally. Record everything that goes into your mouth. If you have a kitchen scale that's the best, if not estimate as best as you can (you get better at it with practice). Using the weight of the food consumed, look up the calories on the internet. I keep a file on...

Post your latest head shake moment

I rented a car from Enterprise in Calgary once. They came to pick me up, but the driver couldn't get the rental car up a hill in the blizzard that was happening at the time. So, she came and picked us up in her personal jeep, took us back to the rental car centre and handed us the keys to the...

    Hydro bill

Yes, there is certainly waste in the system and we need to keep on them to do better. But this government should be recognized as having the perseverance to phase out coal power in this province. That was a huge achievement and it took a lot of forward thinking not normally seen in...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

They do have their superchargers locked up for Tesla only, but the Tesla destination chargers that they provide business' with (hotels, restaurants, etc.) can be accessed with the adapter. From what I can tell online, the example of the charger in Gravenhurst is associated with a Tim Horton's.

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Even if it is a Tesla destination charger, there's an adapter that non-Teslas can use to access it.

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

My cottage is north of Belleville off 506 and I will be able to get there easily on a single charge. 2 days of charging (I'm never there less than 2 days ever) and I'm back to the city with no issues. At 3 hours out of Toronto, that's further away than most who have cottages along Georgian Bay...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Actually Algonquin is totally doable. There's a Level 3 DC charger in Gravenhurst. Stop for under an hour there charging (1 hr DC = 290 km) and you can totally do Algonquin and back to Gravenhurst (240 km roundtrip), then back home. The charging network is being expanded all the time.

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Fair enough, I'm one of those geeks who tracks every drop of gasoline that's ever gone into my car/bike. If nothing else, I know when it's time to change the spark plugs. However consider this. If you were to drive 383 kms every day, for 5 days a week, for the entire year, you would be...

But they recharge overnight, so they will be kept 100% charged. You always leave home with a full charge. Unless you need to go over 383 kms in one day (in the example of the Bolt), there are no range issues. Most (not all) drivers never exceed 383 km in a day even with a few curve balls...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

A solution to the charging speed problem is in the works. http://mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/idUSKBN1AA035. However, most people don't seem to realize that they probably will never actually need to use a charging station. How many times do you leave your house, fill up the tank at the...

    How government budgets work

That's the city's way of saying they don't want to do it. The story got publicity in the paper and now there's pressure to actually do it. The city has so many projects that need to be done (fixing dilapidated social housing buildings, etc.). From what I've heard this park had another...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

I find it to be too much of a coincidence that the price of oil dropped and stayed low at around the time viable electric cars started becoming available. I put a deposit down on a 2018 Bolt earlier this week. No details of the 2018 have been released yet, so I'm just on the list.
