2024 MotoGP Discussion Thread (No Links - May Contain Spoilers

The postponement of the Kazakhstan GP left a big hole in the calendar that I'm filling with FIM JuniorGP. They live-stream and post their entire set of races on YouTube. The 'Misano' curbs continue to interact poorly with the narrow tires of the little bikes. The highsides from stepping off the...

The Bad Riders of Ontario Thread

I had to look up where Castleton is (middle of nowhere). The neighbours probably would have given him some leeway to ride that thing around town without too much trouble if there had been even a token effort to put a muffler on it. Somebody called that one in for sure. Not having a license /...

What did you do in your garage today..?

Ignore the curved aluminum thing in the first picture - that's the bike's sharkfin (designed to keep your fingers/toes out of the sprocket), not part of the stand. The stands are 8" of 1" pipe, with 6" of 1-1/4" pipe nested over them, fastened to some wood scraps I had lying around. Total...

What did you do in your garage today..?

Tried out a new fabrication material and made some quality of life improvements in the garage this weekend. I made a pair of compact swingarm spool stands out of schedule 40 steel pipe and pipe floor flanges. It turns out that 1" sch40 pipe nests nicely inside 1-1/4" sch40 pipe, so the stands...

I'll give elementary school teachers a pass on that one. Those environments are biological warfare petri dishes.

    Return to office

My employer sucks in lots of ways, but the sick day policy is not one of them. If you're sick, you stay home. You still get paid. There's no specific number of days to track or budget, and you don't need a doctor's note. I'm sure there's a process for managers to follow if things get excessive...

    2025 Suzukis

After the introduction of the recent 800cc parallel twins, I'd be surprised to see anything major from them on the street bike side for the next 10 years.

    Stolen Ktm superduke

If you have the space, I'm solidly in the camp of having multiple cheap motorcycles over a single unicorn bike. Off road, an ADV bike will never be as good as a dual sport, and a dual sport will never be as good as a dirt bike, which is mostly related to weight. But as a bike gets more off-road...

Bare aluminum oxidizes fast, so a 2K clearcoat will help if you want to keep a high polish: https://www.amazon.ca/SprayMax-Glamour-Gloss-Aerosol-Clear/dp/B0082LJMC6

Looks like the panels might be anodized, not chromed? https://www.scramblerforum.com/threads/can-you-polish-the-tank-side-panels.37035/ My XSR tank panels are clearcoat over raw brushed aluminum.

What did you do in your garage today..?

Plasti-Dip will peel off quickly where your knees rub on the tank panels. I think I gave you a chunk of green honing compound with that Lansky sharpener thing. If you still have that, you can work a bunch of the compound into a fine cloth or scrap of leather and see if elbow grease will improve...

    Abba Stand?

It's about as stable as most other stands I've used. I prefer to do heavy torquing like axle nuts with the wheels on the ground, regardless of stand type, but I'm not worried about anything falling. Bolting or ziptieing the scissor jacks to the stools would make it rock solid. In my application...

    Wrecked hard on Tuesday

My wife went through something similar last year. Guy turned left in front of her at an intersection, 100% his fault. It's free to call and get a consult, but prepare to be disappointed in your personal injury legal quest. Ontario's system actively discourages it. My wife called a half dozen...

Stupidly overpriced motorcycle for sale thread

I think being inefficient is an intentional design choice. They seem to be marketing it more as workout equipment than as casual transportation. Sort of like running, but no-impact
