    848 vs, gsxr750

I don't like the Monster's seating position, it doesn't work for me. But it is cool and looks way better than a Gladius or an ER-6N. If I got a Monster, I'd probably look into a 796, or also consider an Aprilia Shiver 750. I'd like a bit more 'go' than the base 696, and the jump up in price...

    848 vs, gsxr750

I'm not a sportbike rider, and was a new-ish rider at the time I demo'd an 848 Evo, so take this with a grain of salt. The 848 was gorgeous, sounded great at every RPM (the demo bike was flat black and had Termignoni pipes), felt very narrow and agile and just had a surgical tool feel to it...

I need a recommendation for mechanic who knows carberators very well

The way I see it, you lose nothing (and gain experience) by pulling the engine out and removing the head. It'd be a great learning experience. To go all the way down to 35 PSI compression, I'd be worried that there's piston ring damage as well as valve damage. Good luck!

    Respectable recent sport-touring tire comparison?

Out of curiosity, does anyone run Metzeler Z8's or Conti Road Attack 2's? Would be interesting to hear.

    Respectable recent sport-touring tire comparison?

I put Pilot Road 3's on my last bike and was really happy with the grip and wet weather performance. It was a big heavy bike with so-so suspension but it could corner with those tires - I noticed they were grippier than the older Bridgestones they replaced. However, they're a bit more costly...

I need a recommendation for mechanic who knows carberators very well

If the bike is running lean, that's a good root cause of dropping compression in one cylinder. I agree with what Brian P stated (good description BTW), but I'd take the easy way out and get a used motor. People drop and crash GS500's all the time, should not be difficult or too expensive...

The Official Ongoing Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas thread

A few missing fairing clips kept me from getting out on the road :s. Just put the order in, but the weather's changing again. Oh well, will wait until there's a good rain and the salt and sand get washed off. Was nice to get the bike out of the shed and work on it - I fabbed up a few mounts...

Mountain Bikes & places to ride.

Once you get into the sport, you really start to appreciate good trails as opposed to just riding in conservation lands or on gravel trails. Granted, there's a learning curve before you get there. Well-designed, purpose-built mountain bike trails are a riot. I'd also advise against riding...

Advice needed: Fun to drive car for $25k?

Or just the plain old Legacy 2.5GT. Quick, good handling, and not a total boy racer car. Drinks a bit of gas but fun to drive. A friend had one and he loved it. With an up-pipe he had about a low 14s car. Would be great to find a 5-spd turbo Legacy wagon.

is it bad that I am laughing at this ad??

Theft insurance on that car would've been... $3/mo? Still, I'm surprised it got pinched. I'm guessing it was used for a joyride.

Advice needed: Fun to drive car for $25k?

I'm still driving an '01 4-cyl sedan with 185k. I bought it used in '06 with 55k kms on it. In that time, I've done limited suspension work (front shocks, front upper ball joints, rear stabilizer links), a clutch, an airbag computer, a few brake jobs, and only one set of new tires (apart from...

    remember your first ride?

My first ride was about 7-8 years ago. My friends took me out dirt biking after my last exam of university. We had three bikes - my friend just bought a brand new CRF250X, and he had his old '90s CR125 and his 5'4" wife's KX100. I drew the last straw so I got the KX100. I learned how to...

    Leg Protection: The forgotten limbs...

I have a few sets of pants - a leather set, as well as a cordura set (Joe Rocket Ballistic). Has anyone crashed on Ballistic pants? If so, how did the pants fare? Going for dedicated knee armor seems like a good idea too.

Is it unethical to walk to a bike dealership and....?

Usually in this situation, I've just done business with their parts counter and have a gallon of oil and an oil filter, or some other parts in my hand. If dealers were anal about letting customers sit on bikes, there's lots of other places to buy parts as well!

Is it unethical to walk to a bike dealership and....?

I usually ask permission nicely and make it clear I just want the opportunity to sit on the bike. No one's turned me down, or turned up their nose at me yet. I think you're a prick if you talk like you mean business and waste their time but have no intent of buying. If you're nice and say...

    New Ford Police Interceptors

I think it's much closer to performance than a Crown Vic, per se. Still, it's going to be loaded down with extras and it will have a light bar on the roof. I think most supersports could outrun it and pull away at speed. You're completely right that 'real life' stuff like gravel, potholes...

    New Ford Police Interceptors

Exactly what I was thinking. If Ford were to sell a turbocharged car to law enforcement and it didn't work out (through their own fault, or because they were misused - turned off after spooling the hell out of the turbos, idled for 2 hrs straight, ...), I bet GM or Chrysler's getting the next...

Evotech & Yosh repack kit sources?

Riveting the pipe back together takes some pretty good grip strength (or a pneumatic gun). Good luck!

    Triumph Daytona 955i

A friend has an '03 Sprint RS 955i and it's not horribly unreliable or difficult to keep up. Budget more than a CBR, for sure, but not terrible.
