    Speed limits: Is faster safer?

This whole argument gets a bit futile... people forget a couple of basic principles that will likely make the case for increasing the limits completely moot: For one, there is a consistent and constant focus in the media on the big horrific crashes, and the people that are getting 172'd. Public...

    Speed limits: Is faster safer?

I'll comment to this section of your post....in the commercial vehicle I drive every day in Toronto, I am governed to exactly 105 kph, and I can assure you, I pass more people than you would believe. An interesting little factoid many people are unaware of is that the majority of trucks were...

Inching towards killing the moto industry in the GTA

One of the patterns that make me chuckle in all this is the number of new riders that don't mind financing the bike AND gear, especially at the retarded rates dealer finance charges, and yet squawk about insurance premiums. This too is a part of your insurance profile, in terms of a fraud risk...

Inching towards killing the moto industry in the GTA

I can't say I'd disagree on the graduated license/bike size - back when I started in the 80's, insurance if I recall was much harder to find, and the big guys of the day (jevco I think?) sort of took care of that anyway. I was first quoted with stipulations of no SS bikes until I had 3 years...

Inching towards killing the moto industry in the GTA

Not to sound like I'm dismissing concerns, but there is nothing in this post that wasn't true 30 years ago. The only tangible change I can see is the perpetual decline of good sense from young riders, in the capacity of what type of bike to start with. A healthy industry is dependent on people...

    New rider with many question

I'm not particularly defensive for myself, but for the new riders that all the Moms on here think they are saving. It is a sad hypocrisy, and a very uneducated one at that. What you advise for a new rider is fine for you, and that's great. But you're full of **** if you think that's the only or...

    New rider with many question

I'm in partial agreement here.....HOWEVER if you are in the industry, then you are also aware of the overwhelming driver shortage. Even the most reputable companies are pushed into areas that they are uncomfortable with, and most certainly no longer have the resources to partner up their...

    New rider with many question

Clearly you need to dust off your defensive driving handbook, lol. Last time I checked, constant scanning, speed and lane management are kind of a good habit to teach in the first place. Hence the constant reiteration of A REALISTIC VEHICLE AND TRAINING ENVIRONMENT. I don't feel remotely safer...

    New rider with many question

I can't help but see a hypocrisy here. You're a truck driver, right? Allow me to bring you back to a time when you were learning how to do so.....without exception, every student I had in a tractor trailer approached this new task with a respectful trepidation, and yet the only mechanism...

    New rider with many question

You're right, keep your kind off motorcycles completely. I'd prefer a better demographic to base our insurance rates on. Any other narrow views you would like society to acquiesce to? Maybe we can just sell off the motorcycles and buy a **** ton of bubble wrap.

1 big ADV bike or 2 lesser (dual sport + street)

I went with two bikes: best scenario for me at least. Klr 650 was my daily ride, but after riding it out east it was pretty obvious that a highway bike would be a nice option for those kind of trips, so I got a triumph trophy 1200. Plenty sporty too considering the size

    New rider with many question

Macdoc has the best overall input here IMHO. All these nanny types freak me out. I don't have an issue with differing opinions, but for the love of God, have you still not realized that you cannot learn a ****ing thing until you try? I liked how my Dad rolled with things; driving a boat alone at...

    VW deisel?? wtf...

I'd say vw just got the unlucky lottery ticket here; ever wonder what they are all doing to keep up with the EPA? With the truck industry, the emission laws are happening faster than the technology, which I'm sure keeps the uninformed happy, but it has been a real trainwreck for the manufacturer...

Transferring a registration in a trade?

Car or bike, just look at what would occur at a dealership. Tax is calculated on the money that happens through the trade, not the vehicle per say. Done it before privately as well; declared 1$, and when I got my letter much later asking for confirmation of the transaction, I just added a...

    Stunt Driving.... Need Help!!!

Lol, wasn't going to contribute to this thread, but this post might just be another entry into the **** tard hall of fame. Clock is ticking; this story will likely end in the fallen riders section

Draining coolant/water for winter and not refilling, any damage?

You see this a lot on boat engines with open cooling systems too....people just drain the block and walk away, especially if they can't run the engine during winterizing. . Pretty dumb IMHO; after you dump the water the other option is to fill with plumbing antifreeze. Sleep well every winter...
