    Alpine Fastback Shoes

If I had to buy again I would also consider the Forma Adventure Boots or the Sidi Discovery Boots. Both have had positive reviews from the ADV community (we are generally hard on our boots and also like to walk when we reach or destination)...

    Alpine Fastback Shoes

I would say yes for commuting, around town and dirt road, DS/ADV stuff these are great boots. They are comfortable enough to wear all day and walk around places (at least for me) and offer enough protection to save your ankles. What they are not is a full MX boot or a road racing boot, either of...

    Alpine Fastback Shoes

I forgot my dress shoes at home today, so I'm actually wearing a pair of black Gaerne Balance boots at the office right now. They don't look widely out of place, and my feet are not in pain which is nice. I can vouch for how well they hold up when things get interesting. They are not a road race...

    Alpine Fastback Shoes

Just make sure it has ankle protection. They tend not to heal well and there are many ways to crunch them on a bike. Not what you are looking for, but I wear a pair of Gaerne Balance Boots every day. They are comfortable enough to walk in them all day.

How loud is too loud? What will get me in trouble?

I was running an aftermarket exhaust with no baffles on my DL650 and it past the SAE J2825. Basically any well made aftermarket exhaust stands a good chance of passing. As Brain said there was several treads, one had bikes that pasted and ones that didn't and their exhaust configs.

    Gas leaking out of carburetors

Float is stuck, full of gas, or not seating properly dues to crap in there (checked the parts diagram and there is a float in each). Pull them off clean them and inspect them. There should not be a hole in the pod. Replace....

new to wrenching on my bike

I started wrenching with a basket case, a service manual and a decent (if limited) set of tools. There are not really all that many specialty tools you need. What I would suggest you have is: -Good set of screwdrivers -Metric socket set -Hex drivers -torque wrenches -Feeler gauges -Light...

    Bike run over by cab!

I've seen too many idiotic things by cabbies this week. Report it and let insurance deal with it.

new to wrenching on my bike

SOOOOOO much easier when the engine is on the work bench (still following your project, looking good!) OP, All the basic stuff is not very hard, but it is alot of fidley bits to deal with when you start getting into valves/clutches/etc. Triple check all your work and if you are the least bit...

What basics are you wearing to go for a ride?

For my daily commute: -full face helmet -textile jacket (switch between a touring one and a partial mesh one after it gets hot) -gauntlet type gloves -velocity khakis -Gaerne Balance boots Track is a different matter entirely. I like my skin and after almost 2 decades of riding I have seen...

    Installing grips

Before I had a compressor I would slide a screw driver under the grip and then slip zip in, roll the screw driver over a bit an repeat. Total of about 6 zip ties and the old grip slides off nice and easy without residue. Hairspray for the new grip and it pops right on.

You could also try replacing the stock seat first. The gel seat is suppose to be lower then the stock seat (it is on the first gen that is what I am using). The seatconcepts.com conversion package is also suppose to lower it and I have read good reviews from riders with it. Just remember the...
