    Home furnace shopping

Sounds like an interesting option. I assume there's no problem with US / Canada warranty?

    Home furnace shopping

Yes, I'm doing some energy renos as well and my existing furnace is probably already oversized. It doesn't run for very long when it comes on. I think you're referring to "Manual J" calculation. There are lots of programs for this on the web.

    Home furnace shopping

How do you shop for a new furnace and AC? Just trying to select the hardware right now. I think the installers would be dictated by the brand I choose? Where can I look if I wanted to research all the options for the different brands? Go right to mfg's home page? Anywhere to find comparisons...

Try wearing a long sleeve underarmor type shirt. My tight leather jacket slides right off even if shirt is wet.

    Stair post removal advice needed

Pipe wrench designed for smooth steel pipe. It won't have a problem grabbing the screw. But it will chew up what it bites into. You won't be reusing that screw.

Pipe wrench would be faster. The other end of lag screw most likely has a finer thread that is screwed into the floor.

    Buying first toolset

I think Husky at HomeDepot used to take in other brand tools that had lifetime warranty. They would take the broken one and replace it with a Husky brand tool. Don't think they do that anymore.

Woman freaks out in walk in demanding a white doctor

What about the country where the population is not white? Is the whole country suffering from lack of proper medical services? I work in mfg'ing. We have immigrants who were practicing medicine back home, but now they are putting in widgets on the assembly line. B/c the process to get...

    Anyone into gardening here?

I went on and googled "pesticide free soil". Scientific America: What makes organic farming different, then? It's not the use of pesticides, it's the origin of the pesticides used. Organic pesticides are those that are derived from natural sources and processed lightly if at all before use...

    Anyone into gardening here?

Damn. Now you made me google dirt! Seems like soil with dead stuff in it can be called organic. No mention of being pesticide free. Gov.on.ca : Organic soils, commonly called peat or muck, have developed from plant residues ... Wiki: Soil organic matter (SOM) is the organic matter component...

Just heard on the radio Home Depot is selling ORGANIC garden soil. What do I get if I go to another store? NOT-ORGANIC dirt?

    German Pliers

I carry one in my tool belt. It replaced channel-locks and adjustable wrench b/c it can grip/squeeze. I use "normal" tools from the tool chest when in the garage. I would only recommend these if you're trying to save weight or space.

Left handed drill bit needed ASAP - Where to buy or who has them

"I just grounded out the allen head bolt (made from soft aluminum)." Probably galling if it's an aluminum bolt. For home brew penetrating fluid use ATF fluid and acetone, 1:1. For just one bolt you can get enough ATF off the dip stick from your car. The acetone you might have at home in the...

Using generic grip heaters with oxfords controller

I have the same thing. It operates by pulsing the power on /off (pulse width modulation). On higher heat setting, the on pulse is active longer. On lower heat setting the duration of the on pulse is shorter. In other words, it's like flicking a light switch on/off. My controller is good for...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Just went for a 3 day road trip last weekend down to Sandusky, Ohio. 2017 Chrysler Pacifica, 5 people + luggage, highway cruising speed 130~140km/h. Avg. for whole weekend (including time in Sandusky) was 8.3 L/100. And why is US gas still about 1/2 of what we're paying?
