Please get your facts straight. You can stop for gas, and not all long rifles can go any place you want within reason. There are long rifles that are classified as restricted just like handguns.

The police can demand all they want. They do not have a right to see you firearms without a warrent. The CFO is a different story. They can make arrangements with you to inspect your firearms and you have to comply. This does not apply to the police.

Reports I have read state he ordered all his guns within the last 60 days. This would mean it is not a norinco. He aslo ordered a 100 round drum for the AR. I'm thinking this would have to be in .22 cal not the traditional .223 as I do not think you could fit 100 rounds of .223 in a single drum.
