There’s a guy that mechanics use in the GTA whose specialty is removing broken bolts and thread repair on site. I was getting my Mercedes Sprinter worked on in Scarborough and my mechanic broke a bolt off in the head in a really bad spot. He picked up the phone, the guy showed up within the hour...
Your right about bike thieves being like horse thieves. I had a bike stolen so I know what it’s like. Karma caught up to Nick. He stole bikes to support his worsening cocaine habit, he dropped dead at the age of 24 of heart failure. The only silver lining in this story is that Nick’s program...
There was a guy in my neighborhood known as “Nick The Bike Man”. He was a prolific motorcycle thief that honed his skills in Scarborough. He worked briefly at Toronto Motorbike behind the parts counter. He had determined that there were only about 10 different keys that Yamaha used on their...
When I was a kid in Scarborough in 1974 there was an older guy in my neighborhood that raced an RD350. One Sunday my buddies and I are sitting on some swings in a parkette just outside of the Eglinton Go station parking lot where this guy is doing wheelies on his RD in the empty parking lot in...
I agree. I would rather see a nice old bike with original paint and patina than one with a bright shiny new paint job. I think those weird graphics Japanese bikes have had over the decades are difficult to replicate. They never seem to look quite right. They’re only original once as collectors...

This baby came up for sale a little while back with only 3 miles on the odometer. I think it sold for $25,000 US. I would kill for that bike.
Unfortunately there are no consequences or repercussions for people that do dumb things with guns. Law abiding gun owners get punished instead by virtue signalling politicians that don’t know which end of a gun is up. Makes for great headlines and soundbites. We don’t have a gun problem, we have...
That’s how it was when I was a kid growing up in Toronto in the 60’s and 70’s, rifles were kept on a rack above the fireplace or in a gun case which was like a glass China cabinet in the basement rec room. Nobody ever got shot.
Welding pressed cranks was a must on old Kawasaki kz900 and 1000’s with pressed cranks. They had a tendency to twist when ridden hard or raced. Just a couple of very short beads or a couple of tack welds with a tig machine is all it takes.
I don’t like high tech stuff either like fobs, abs etc. I did however have 3 Honda’s that had their linked braking system that worked flawlessly. I actually got the last year ST1300 that had the non abs linked brakes in 2007.
Sorry, I didn’t really answer your question. I never really ask myself how cheap can I buy a motorcycle, I ask how cheap can I enjoy a motorcycle. I would rather spend a little more on a bike that’s in good shape and get my money back when I sell it.
I had two bikes insured and on the road a few years back. You don’t get much of a break on insurance for the second bike. I decided it just wasn’t worth it and got rid of the second bike.
I’m seeing a lot of nice early 2000’s BMW bikes for well under $5000. Sellers are usually well heeled , older riders that maintained them and stored them properly. There’s something that’s so cool about a mint 20 plus year old bike. They may actually increase in value in the next few years. I...
