    Rear Brake issue

He isn't all that close to where I live. It was a little out of the way for the safety as well but he did same day ones and so I went the extra to where he was. Good service and nice guy, was just hoping it was a simple fix I could do myself. I will try the suggestion earlier and if not, I may...

    Rear Brake issue

Yeah, the bike is running great now since the mechanic cleaned the carbs and put in new plugs. He did adjust the brakes when he did the inspection and I am wondering now if he simply adjusted them too tight?

    Rear Brake issue

Hello, I recently purchased a 2006 Yamaha Virago 250 and although it passed safety and I can ride it ok, the rear brake tends to stick or lock up when applied too quick. I hear a louder clunk and it clamps down hard, then releases and is fine for a bit until it does it again. I can control the...

    Rookie Mistake

Thanks FattBoy. It was actually fixed by Joe at West End Cycle and he did a great job of getting it back running. Cleaned the carb and put in new spark plugs. Along with the new battery the previous owner put in when I bought it, I should be good for a bit . Have been out riding a few times...

60 day wait makes no sense (when taking an M1 course)

I see what your saying and I guess I looked at it different. I just got my M1 and then immediately booked my M2 course for this weekend. This way I can learn to ride as safe as possible and then spend the next 2 months putting into practice the lessons I learn before handing in my results to get...

    Rookie Mistake

Found it online for free. Definitely want to learn as much as I can over the next 2 years of going through my license. My plan is to use this entry bike to learn both riding and maintenance on, then get a bigger bike when I get my full M. The bike I bought, should hold its retail value fairly...

$230 for the carb cleaning and new plugs. Joe at West End Cycle was super easy to deal with...

    Rookie Mistake

Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement. The bike is finally home. Put in 120k on it tonight getting it home and a quick spin around the area. I had so much fun and felt very comfortable on it. No stalls! Now time to do some research on cleaning it up a little and basic maintenance!

    Rookie Mistake

Not sure...I wasn't there when he did it...or even if he did actually....I am hoping the costs come in below $400 for everything....so far he replaced the plugs and is cleaning out the carb today. It's only 1 carb, so that should keep the cost down a little...or so I hope.

    Rookie Mistake

If this sucker ever gets running and on the road I may just take you up on that offer! Would like to find some groups in the GTA area to do some rides with and learn from some experienced riders as well.

    Rookie Mistake

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I am pretty sure he left gas in it over the winter. I will be sure to pay close attention to this thread when I get it ready for storage this winter.....hopefully after a long season of riding ! I plan on leaning as much maintenance on this bike as I can as...

    Rookie Mistake

Yeah, that is where my inexperience really kicks is...lol. I figured it would be as simple as that stuff goes in and it would sort itself out on the ride home. I didn't for a second think it meant the bike wouldn't be able to be ridden home.

    Rookie Mistake

Thanks for the offer...the bike is actually with the mechanic now and is getting some work done. He thought it was the spark plugs, which would have been a cheap answer for me, but now it's looking like the carbs are all plugged up. He is getting to it first thing tomorrow and letting it soak in...

    Rookie Mistake

Seller had it running and even put in a new battery. He didn't really rev it much, just showed it was running. He did mention that the carbs were a little rough but had me bring him a carb cleaner for the gas tank and figured that would solve the issue. I don't know enough about bikes to...

    Rookie Mistake

Thanks...I guess this would be a good time to only have 1 carb. I will pop back in once I find out and let you know.

    Rookie Mistake

As this is my first bike, (Other than dirt bikes growing up) I don't feel comfortable doing any repairs to it myself just yet. I have left it with Joe at West End Cycle...hoping tomorrow he tells me it won't be too costly. It has a brand new battery and was stored all winter and yet to be ridden...

2006 Yamaha Virago 250...idle is ok with choke fully open, but very low, can't move the choke more than 1/4 without a stall. Same thing with putting it in gear to go forward.
