Make sure to try the helmet on. the sun visors in helmets all come down differently - I found the one in the helmet I wanted was rubbing on my nose - glad I went to GP and didn't just order on line. Did get the Shoei Evo modular after trying a number of options and love the sun visor

I think you will do fine with the vstar. I am 200lbs male and I rode one for my first season. As a beginner I wasn't looking for power and performance.
