Bike does not rev past 2-3K

I would definitely suggest you get the bike connected to whatever is kawasaki’s version of a code reader. I know from unfortunate personal experience that if the ecu has gone into “protection “ mode, which sounds like what you are describing, there are all kinds of things that can cause the ecu...

Iron 883 one of the most beautiful and also maligned motorcycle

You can have it both ways, if you look hard enough. One of my bikes is a Harley XR1200, its a Harley that goes fast, handles and has pretty good brakes. It will play with my buddies on their Ducatis all day long. They just are a little hard to find, and they share almost no parts with any other...

    V Strom 650 or 1000

I went on a trip a few years ago with both a 650 and a 1000 vstroms. We were down in the states on the way to Deal’s Gap and for time’s sake we had to hit I81. The 650 had a real struggle not getting run over by the semis going downhill at 80 mph. The 1000 no problems. Just something to consider.

    Interesting Spare Bike (Big Naked/Firehawk/Hornet/SV1000/1125CR/etc)

Wouldn’t a XR1200 be a much better choice? Better motor,suspension,frame/swingarm,choice of tires, and yes brakes. Harder to find I suppose.

Helmet Exemption Coming for Sikh Motorcyclists in Ontario

I realize that this is an old topic of discussion, but it does present some interesting angles to look at. Obviously the first area to discuss would be how can you allow a group to opt out of a safety regulation when you have gov’t funded health care? The potential liability to the health care...

    Key West

I have spent many winters down there. There are some things to take into account. First the bike riding experience is not great, the road, and there is only one, to KeyWest is relatively straight and somewhat slow. But if you are cool with that then great. The summer is the rainy season, so it...

OOPS! Not charges I'd want to be dealing with

So yesterday I am riding home on the Hockley road, it’s pretty busy, sight seers, hikers, and lots of bikes as you might suspect. Well screaming up the road behind me was a group of around six geniuses on supersports, passing on blind curves, over double lines, forced at least one car onto the...

Second year riding, thinking of heading to Florida in May.

I really would rethink what you are trying to accomplish. Going for a bike trip or going for a party trip. If you are convinced you have to go to the big cities make sure you understand what that means, traffic, traffic, and more traffic. Also if you are primarily going to ride interstates get...

    5-6 Day trip suggestions

I agree about Southern California, can’t go wrong. I also agree about flying into Phoenix and exploring. Just one potential problem, that whole area that includes Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Moab etc. is relatively high altitude wise and may be starting to get cold in early November, but some...

    Opinions

I call “********” on the complete thread! If the poster can afford the insurance on any of the discussed bikes he/she can afford to buy a new version of most of them. Remember we are talking about thousands of dollars a year. Judging by the spelling errors I can only assume the poster is younger...

    HD V-Rod dead ?

I’m quite sympathetic. One of the bikes I’m lucky enough to own is a Harley XR1200, a really fun bike to ride. Harley of course stopped making it, and have for the most part orphaned it. The XR shares almost no parts with any other Harley, and consequently getting parts can be a challenge. My...

    Solo touring

I used to be a “solo” tour type, but lately some of the “what if’s “ have happened to me. I have hit a deer in PA., been chased by a bear on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and have been forced into a ditch by a semi on the “Snake”. But the event that really caused me to prefer to travel with a buddy...

Motorcycle Down 10-03-2017 Bayview & Merton

What you are describing sounds like a hematoma. Essentially a large, really large, bruise. Can take quite a while to disappear.

    Riding offroad should be mandatory

I don't know how you could make dirt experience mandatory, but it would be a good idea. I started riding at 12 on dirt bikes, raced MX seriously for 8 years, as well as enduros, as soon as I turned 16 I got my street license. My dirt experience was invaluable in operating my first street bike...

So I rode a Harley today...

I have a XR 1200, and I love it. It goes, stops, handles great. I ride almost every weekend with Ducatis and keep up quite easily. I wouldn't head off to Vancouver on it, that's what my FJR is for, but for a Sunday ride the XR is a ton of fun. The fact that it shares virtually no parts with any...

    Certifying a hardtail

Oh you young whippersnappers are so much fun. Replacing shocks with struts was a relatively common modification in the early seventies. It is of course a stupid idea but lots of guys did it. Today it would not pass a safety, now if you put your sportster engine in a custom rigid frame, that was...

    Group of Motorcyclists wanted...

Re: OPP Claims "Motorcycle Hooligans" Terrorized Ont Highways I'll tell you what this will guarantee, anybody with anything other than a stock licence plate setup will get stopped and ticketed now. The OPP will see this as a challenge to their ability to maintain control of the highways, and...

    More Harley (cruiser) reviews

I know they are pretty rare but a XR1200 is a fun decent bike. I have had one for 4 years now and it is tons of fun to ride, let's me hang with my buddies who have Ducati monsters. I wouldn't head off to Vancouver on it,that's what the FJR is for, but great to tear up River Road.

    Lane filter with parked cars

I think there is some confusion here. If the road was designed like Danforth Ave. with two lanes and a parking spot then of course it would be legal. However on a road where there is a lane and a little space then the parking spot, like Queen St. in the Beach, I suspect that it is illegal. There...

Help with Vance and Hines orders.

I have been trying to order some parts for a XR1200 and it's not going smoothly. V&H it seems won't ship direct to Canada, or I'm doing it wrong. Does anyone have any info or ideas about how to do this? Thanks.
