I've had to bump started my Gixxer twice. If the battery is fully discharged the fuel pump won't pressurize the system and in my experience the bike won't start. What I did was pull all none essential fuses reducing the draw on the electrical system. After that it started after a short push.

+1 on a locksmith, or any decent place that makes keys. My bike had the same problem, I took it to the local lock guy, he cut a key using my original then tweaked it till it worked perfect. Cost me under $10
