    Cray Scarlett RIP

WOW! What a shock. I can't say I knew him well, but I certainly appreciated that every time I was at Maranello he approached and engaged me in great conversations. All done in the spirit of just talking, without hard core sales pitches. He will be missed.

    Who's watching Dakar 2023?

I enjoy it and try to follow it every year from sources I can find like YouTube and Red Bull TV. I'm more than a little disappointed and conflicted that the Saudis seem to have bought it like they have with many other sports.

    Merino Wool clothing

I find that over time and many washes, both Icebreaker and Smartwool get itchy against my skin. The only product that works really well in the long term is LIFA Merino by Helly Hansen. The inner layer against the skin is smooth and comfortable. When looking at Helly Hansen products just make...

    Euthanizing a pet sucks. :(

Sorry for your loss. We all know it's inevitable but that doesn't make it any easier. We have dealt with this many times over the years. The last was a couple of years ago and we were able to have a vet see her through to the end at our home which made it much easier.

    Didn't ride this year...

I think once you've ridden a motorcycle for some time, as it appears you have, the interest and desire never leaves you. Difficult times in our lives are hopefully relatively short and you'll be riding again before long.

    Buying a used BMW Car

There seems to be a lot of focus on BMW service cost in this thread and not much on handling, driveability, accident avoidance and overall safety. What's a serious accident or perhaps your life worth?

    Buying a used BMW Car

I have had three BMWs all purchased as used, about 3 years old with normal mileage. 90 325is > 250000km, 97 328is > 250000km and currently a 2011 X5 diesel with 247000km. No significant issues with any of them. I always service them when service is due and I have a good local BMW specialist. I...

    Exhaust sound modulation

I know BMW 1200s and 1250s have a servo driven exhaust flapper valve but it's not controlled by the rider. There are issues with the flapper seizing up although mostly in the fully open position due to the fact there's a spring return. On the 1200s the flapper valve is accessible for repair or...

    Airhawk Dual Sport Air Cushion

Looking back at the original video and the length of the seat, I think the pillion air hawk would be a better shape. As you sit on the air hawk it would spread out perhaps providing some cushioning in the edge area where the seat transitions from horizontal to vertical. The pointy end of the DS...

    Airhawk Dual Sport Air Cushion

I have an original dual sport air hawk that has a rubber bladder and works well with no issues. All the newer air hawk bladders are a different material. I remember reading (either here or ADVrider forum) that they aren't as good but can't remember why. I agree with all the comments made here...

Things that have worked for me long term.

Russell sport seat (not the DayLong due to seat height issues) plus Airhawk minimal inflation plus LD Comfort riding shorts. Great for hemorroids too 😂. Just sayin'

    Northeys bay rd life threatening

Fully agree that it's a beautiful road but it seems to be a frequent spot for motorcycle accidents and at its intersection with 28. Wishing the best for those involved.

2022 MotoGP Discussion (No Links - Contains Spoilers!)

I don't understand Marc at all on continuing to race with everything he's been through. I know all the greats in every sport think and act differently, and that's what makes them who they are. Marc's methodology is "how can you find and learn the limit unless you break through it?". He's going...

Ride Report: 2021 Summer Solstice Ride

The funny thing is that the low fuel light comes on around 100km remaining and it bugs me so much to see the warning both on the dash and the gps that I immediately start thinking about the closest gas station. Silly I know.

Ride Report: 2021 Summer Solstice Ride

2019 BMW R1250RT with 36000km and believe me it's based on very normal sport/ touring riding. I'll admit I took the picture because it was higher than I normally see after a fill up. It's usually around the 500km mark. This particular day it was east on the 401 up 35/115 then a variety of county...

Who here wears an air-bag jacket/vest as im looking for advice on buying one

I didn't purchase a bigger jacket. I use two jackets (one adv/touring style for most rides and a mesh style for hotter days) both with the back protector removed. There was enough room in the touring jacket but the mesh style is a tighter fit so I leave the front unzipped to near the bottom...
