Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Some people may be able to get away with charging at work. A change in employer, their policies (wfh, theft of electricity, etc), or location/facilities could easily break that model though. The people that buy them and plan on DC fast-charge only are in hell. That is way more annoying and...

    Canada Post - Huge losses

I had a parcel delivery notice in my mailbox last week. I was home. They never tried to deliver. It didn't fit in the superbox so they went straight to the slip. Useless.

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

I agree if you can charge at home. If you can't charge at home, things are much worse.

What to expect when attending CBSK race day

I haven't been to CBSK. I went to VRRA at CTMP. I walked around a lot and watched from various places. I didn't bother with a chair as I didn't want to carry it. Sitting on the ground works for me. My favorite spot was near turn 3 where you can see turns one, two and three. Corner 5 was...

    Canada Post - Huge losses

Canada Post (and CPPIB and many other etitities) still pretend they are independent and not a crown corp. When you have been granted a monopoly, funding comes from taxes and you can't fail, you are a crown corp. Like the "blind" trust, it is all semantics to pretend that we aren't being screwed...

    Canada Post - Huge losses

If you look into the details, they probably met targets. The targets were self-set and obviously somewhere below zero. While the politicians like to pretend that the agencies are independent, it would be trivially easy to stop funding when they fail and let them be "independent" on their own...

    Where to get a puppy?

She's always welcome to come and hang out with Fred. He loves dogs. You're invited too.

    Where to get a puppy?

Classes are 90% owner training, 10% dog training. Still worthwhile in most cases. Try to take the wife and kids if you can. It works better when all the owners get training. Fred never used to jump up but he has started to occasionally when we get home. As his feet land on my shoulders, that...

Nord-lock washers - where to buy in Toronto?

Sure but on things like small machine screws you may want to add some heat as they aren't hard to strip. I'd stick with blue as first line and use orange when I need more hold.

Nord-lock washers - where to buy in Toronto?

Orange is a lot stronger than blue but still releases without heat. Better for larger fasteners than blue.

Stupidly overpriced motorcycle for sale thread

The best way to warm up a bike is hitting the limiter within a second of starting it

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

You can spray it with some bubbly liquid to check for small leaks. It looks like non-critical parts took the impact.

Why are cruisers so darn cheap?

@omnivore used to be around here a lot. He had omnis with IIRC v8 swaps. He hasn't been on in a decade though.

And when the mortgage is paid off, they are old and don't have the garage space for huge toy cars.

    COVID and the housing market

Bought for 1.25, sold for 1.05. With some very optimistic rounding (as both prices are actually 50 and not 49 and 51), it could appear as 100K delta. Original list price in 2022 was 0.999M, sold for 1.25. Current list price was 1.1, sold for 1.05.

Why are cruisers so darn cheap?

If you can get a standard and that works for you, keep on your path. Sadly, if you want a newish vehicle there are very few choices to row your own. My current car is my first auto as it is convenient being able to swap vehicles with my wife and she hates standard. Thankfully, the bike market is...

Why are cruisers so darn cheap?

How many people less than 40 can drive standard? Or have ever ridden in a standard vehicle? I know lots of the muscle cars are auto but as a toy car, I don't like that option.

Why are cruisers so darn cheap?

It's hard when it's not a car you lusted after in your youth. I think the Mann collection will be somewhat of an exception as they are just classically beautiful, can never be reproduced (crash standards, etc make cars ugly) and their buyer pool has infinite money. While an old muscle car is...

    COVID and the housing market

Ouch. It sold for 200K less than he bought it for in 2022. Add in LTT and RE fees and property tax and that house was over 6K a month without considering utilities or maintenance. If you looked at interest and/or missed opportunities and/or inflation, that can easily double the effective cost.
