Police are seeking information and witnesses after an unknown number of suspects allegedly used an excavator to damage a financial institution and stole an ATM.

Another one. I guess maybe the atm's in banks don't have tracking devices in them as they didn't plan for them to be ripped out of the building... the more portable ones I would be a bit more cautious though.
If I'm bothering to steal ATM's with heavy equipment, ensuring that I have a jammer on board seems like a smart part of the plan. If you want to get fancy, you could probably build a faraday cage inside the van/truck but that's harder.

You would think that having a excavator handy the pro move would be to crack the thing open where it sits, grab the cassettes of cash and depart the spot hastily.
I should check indeed to see it there are any "criminal mastermind consulting" gigs listed...

I witnessed 3 guys in a Supra throw a garbage can through the window of a Shoppers Drug Mart at Warden & 7 and run in with green garbage bags, stealing smokes. We were on break at the Loblaws in the plaza, that was about 2AM in the summer of `90 or`91. One of our crew called 911 and in 60 to 90 seconds there were at least 8 cops arriving at high speed from all directions. Crazy like a movie. The Supra crew loaded the car and blasted off, south down Warden with the cops in tow. About an hour passes and one of the cops comes back and tells us they called the chase off near 401 as speeds were well over 100 mph. A week or so later another cop stops by to tell us they caught the same crew in Scarborough doing the same B & E.
It would be easier to buy smokes from a Rez store. The retail price for premium smokes at a res convenience store (not the roadside smoke shacks, the general stores unsound the res that cater to the community). $4 pack in singles, $35/ carton of $10.

But no tax strip on rez cigs. Easier to sell "legal" cigarettes. I assume that those grabbing garbage bags of cigs in a Supra were not using them all for personal consumption.

My big takeaway from that is back then the police response time was very good however now with exponentially larger police budgets and far better communication systems the police response time is more "when they get around to it" WTF happened?
