Yalla Habibi! Fortnine documentary

As soon as I added the price tag of the 2 multistradas I knew they were going to be some unrealistic adventures.

Also ryan seems to have done a 360 on ducati, last time I checked he had quite the axe to grind with them?

Anybody seen it yet? How’s it , I will watch it next weekend.

For context : https://fortnine.ca/en/movie-yalla-habibi

I’ve been a fan of FortNine and Ryan’s videos since before I moved to Canada, so knowing they’re a Canadian company makes it even better. I’m also a sucker for Multistradas, so as soon as they announced the release date, I pre-ordered the film and watched it on day one.

After finishing it, I felt… a bit disappointed. Maybe I went in with the wrong expectations. I was expecting something more Itchy Boots-style adventurous, but everything felt a bit cramped and rushed.

That said, I do think context matters. They were literally racing the clock, with no real film crew (just Ryan's passenger) so no time for glamour shots or retakes. In some interviews, they mentioned they went back a year later just to film the B-roll. Plus, they compressed 17 days into a 1.5-hour film, so some of that feeling probably comes from the edit.

If they ever release an extended cut, I think I’d enjoy it a lot more.

Well, I think that’s what happens when Ducati ends up being the only manufacturer willing to lend them a different pair of bikes on every continent.

That alone probably says a lot about Ducati’s confidence in the reliability of the V4 Granturismo engine. I guess there are some benefits to detuning and understressing what is essentially a superbike motor.

Fun fact: in a few interviews, Ryan mentioned that since they pitched the project to Ducati as a “race,” Ducati even asked FortNine if they wanted the bikes to have tire warmers when picking them up at the airport.

The Multistrada is the king of the class. Hard not to like. :)

Anyone have any interest in doing a watch-along/watch-with-me type of thing?
(We all hit play at the same time, there's a live chat going on for our commentary/discussion)

I was thinking of doing one on my channel, but at 90 minutes of not being able to show what's happening (copyright) I'm worried it'll be a boring livestream.

I liked it, but I also felt it was very rushed. I do wonder how much extra footage they have, and if it would have been better to release it more as a mini series. I am spoiled however with people like Itchyboots making a 20+ min video per day of her travels, and shows like Long way Up/Down/Round/Home. Overall it was shot very well, edited well, and got to see some cool places on cool bikes. Plus it supports a Canadian creator!

Most comfortable bike I’ve ever sat on. Seriously considered one until I paged through the owners manual and it was almost 300 pages just on how to use the electronics and nothing about maintenance. When I asked the sales rep about he said, “Oh no, you don’t do your own maintenance. You have to bring it to the shop.”

Well, eventually the warranty is going to expire…

A reliable source told me that now you don't even get a hard copy of the manual if you buy the base (non-S) model. $25k+ bike and no manual unless you download it online!

Yeah. That sounds about right…

Cant imagine a lot of home mechanics trying to diagnose or do anything beyond the bare minimum on a space shuttle

And that’s the problem - for me at least. I don’t want a space shuttle. I want a motorcycle. A simple, well thought out, proven motorcycle.

Started wrenching my own motocross bikes since before I turned teenager, so why would I stop now?

The day I brought my first bike home (that I paid for with lawn cutting money) my dad handed me a toolbox and overalls of my very own; a canvas tarp to lay parts on; showed me once the process to strip and rebuild; and said “now you figure it out.”
