Smart watches

If they don't like what I get them the gifts can live in a drawer. I'm okay with that.

Ahhhhh... now I realize why older relatives always used to give me socks and sweaters for Christmas...

Also, this thread is giving me, "We have smartwatches at home" vibes:

After using Amazfit bip (original version) for the past 8+ years i finally decided to get Amazefit bip6 as they no longer produce the original Bip. The original bip did everything for my needs and loved the 45 days no charge (till date i charge it once a month). This one says 15 days lets see how it goes. Thought it's bout time i upgrade as the strap is giving out.

I have had the Garmin Forerunner for about a year now and I just use it to monitor stats, track my runs, and read txt/email. Works great and last about 2 weeks on a charge.

if they have apple phones , apple watches just make sense. Otherwise Garman is very good , pricing is all over the map , Sail stores had some good black friday stuff .
I do think with kids its important to get them the tech they WANT to use . I'm very specific when it comes to the things I want . Yes I'm a dick.

I laugh at some smart watches advertising sleep tracking and then they need to charge daily.
not really an issue - my $100 used Apple Watch 6 easily works overnight in low power mode
I also have a long cable charging puck so I can charge on my wrist while working on the computer or watching TV.
Likely much more cost effective solutions for OP but anyone over 60 might consider the Apple watches for the health features.
Tracking sleep and heart/O2 levels reassuring for me....even answering the phone Dick Tracy style is cool plus all the time weather. This one cost me $60 and worked fine for a few months enough for me to understand the benefits then got better for $150 ish with 1 year warranty. Series 6 has all the health stuff.

Bought this a few months ago, wear it everyday at work. It's like a Timex.
I bought one of these as well after the GF bought one. Works great and you can answer phone calls (but not place them) as well as get text or WhatsApp notifications, etc. You'll need to download the VeryFit app from the app store so it can send the notifications and the calls from the phone to the watch via Bluetooth.

I honestly wouldn't spend any more for teenagers. They'll still find it "cool".

I have a Garmin Venue 3. I like it and would recommend it.

My main purpose of getting a smart phone was to have the ability to get quick notification of messages/emails coming in. I am not always near my phone so I wanted to know how urgent the call or message was and if I needed to act on it right away.

I did want it to have the ability to answer calls. I am often on a ladder with the phone not on me so this way I can answer the call if I really have to. I don't always use the feature but I know its there if I need it.

It does track things like heart rate, sleep score, stress level etc etc etc. All the smart watch things.
I don't necessarily use these functions on a regular basis but view my heart rate from time to time. More of a curiosity thing.
I don't sleep with it so I am not sure what more sleep score ever is. Probably in the negatives.

Battery is very good on it. Somewhere between 1-2 weeks before charging.

I think they just release the new verion of this, the Venue 4 at $769. Well

My only complaint is, and this is not the fault of Garmin. I use a snap on screen protector and I have noticed that the sensitivity is poor and doesn't always respond to a swipe. This for sure is due to the cheap and disposable screen protector. I am ok to live with it. I would rather change a $5 screen protector than damage a $600 watch.

Does the venue have a mic and speaker for phone? I can answer the phone with my watch but it literally answers the phone, it has no mic or speaker. My family knows it may take a minute from when I answer to when I find the phone and can talk.

Yes it does.
Phone needs to be nearby connected via Bluetooth.
