CP sent their plan to the government. It will not be publicly released until government agrees with it. No mention of when the union gets a peak. Union is approaching peak strike season, it will be interesting to see the timing of the next steps.
Canada Post says it has submitted a plan to the federal government to transform its struggling business model into a financially sustainable postal service.
CEO of Canada Post says the company expects to lose up to 30,000 employees to retirement or voluntary departure over the next decade as the Crown corporation looks to shrinks its workforce and modernize the service.
I think it's time for the grim reaper to take a walk thru the halls at Canada Post.
At this point they're asking taxpayers to fund "jobs for life" to the tune of a Billion a year. Jobs for a union that has been a significant contributor to the dire condition CPC finds itself in.
If they only need 30,000 employees, bite the bullet and reduce the workforce tomorrow.

I think the feds will drag things out. Still a chance of an election soon. We've proven that we don't care about billions being wasted. Canning 30k employees costs you how many votes? At least six figures for employees and their families and maybe seven figures if other unions pile on.

Tuesday I got a notification that my expected parcel was to be delivered Wednesday, between11:00 and 3:00, so to be on hand to pay any fees, I made myself comfortable in the living room and caught up on emails, driveway in sight. The Mrs. raked a few more leaves on the front lawn, down to the dregs.
The regular mail came but no parcel, no notification, zip. It's not like I a booked a day off work but it could have been more productive. A text to their chat bot later in the day got a reply, paraphrasing "Tough shyte, contact us again in two days for an update."
In a separate notification I am advised of a charge of $16.54 for HST and a service charge
Oh so I have to leave a few more days open, twiddling my thumbs.
As I write this, I note the time as 7:27 AM, year 1892.
The train wreck is over. Salvage what they can.
I feel sorry for the diligent workers at CP but they have to accept some responsibility in believing elected officials. The MP's and union leaders got elected by the same techniques. They lied. There will be unicorns enough for everyone.
I just purchased a set of Hepco Becker C-Bow mounts that will be modified to fit my 1980 Moto Guzzi V50ii.
This will allow me use the bags I have on my 2028 V7iii that are always packed with the gear I need for trips.
They where purchased on Ebay UK for CDN $74.00 and CDN $64.00 shipping buy Royal Mail Tracked (3 kg)
They where dropped off at a private mail shop on Nov, 15 at 9:45 am and was delivered to my door on Nov 19 at 11:00 am
Too big for the Supperbox.
NO HST
NO Brokerage Fee
NO Extra Fees from UPS/DHL/FedEx ( I have a list of horror stories dealing with them)
Even with cutbacks at both the Rotal Mail & Canada Post the service is great.
I will miss them if they disappear!

I get the impression Uber drivers aren't the happiest people on the planet partly due to income. CP workers aren't all making fat salaries. Getting ahead is for many, no longer a dream. They struggle to barely keep up.
How do you efficiently run a company when the workers are stressed on basics. Money problems destroy marriages and destroyed marriages destroy children.
It's the 21st century and traditional lick-a-stamp mail should be couriered at $10 + a shot.
Bills and sundry mail is done by internet. People that don't have computers or the skills to use them can go to libraries or provisions could be set up at the nearest government office, service club or church. They get the scrubbed used two-year-old computers from the higher ups.
Nearly free computers, add a few mentors and some floor space and train people for the future. It's got to be a better use of endless billions of handouts.
Purolator and other couriers take care of packages, charging accordingly.
$541M pretax loss in 3rd quarter. Anyone want to keep arguing that CPC is a standalone corporation and not a crown corp? I know what it is on paper but if it was anything but a defacto crown corp, it would have been permanently closed by now. I wonder how many payments they made to the government on the 1B "loan" JT gave them (and IIRC Carney gave them a solid top up after the first loan was burned).
That one is interesting. I havent heard that the union was lioped in on reorg plan sent to government. Does union know what's in it? Is agreement un principle just a framework to cover whoever is left?
I think cupw finally saw the writing on the wall. If they went on strike at Xmas again, there may be no jobs left to negotiate for.
