I suspect that if municipalities used a small number of speed cameras in actual problem areas with lots of speed-related crashes and pedestrian hits, and set reasonable enforcement thresholds to only get blatant violators, we wouldn't be having this discussion. But, they got greedy, and here we are.

I agree. Bonus points for using the speed when pedestrians were hit as the threshold for the camera. On Parkside, that would be set at >100 kph and I doubt a single person would complain.

Meh, these politicians just jumping on the bandwagon, it's more about eyes on them then any support of the issue.

But it has also created a lot of rest end collisions.
As the first car is afraid of the ticket once the light turns amber, they slamm the brakes.
Car behind is following too closely and bamm.
This exact scenario happened last week to 2 cousins of a friend of mine on their last day of summer break.
2 cars written off.

Following too closely is the root cause here, not the camera.
I agree 100% but the camera doesn't help.
It is in the contract for the cameras that the provider pays to replace damaged cameras, or those that are stolen. Most just end up being ;left where they fall but some have been dragged and thrown in a creek next to the location.
NO. I would say the rear end collision is NOT the fault of the camera but as you correctly point out the car following too close is responsible.
Without profit, I suspect most politicians will instantly lose any interest in speed cameras. They like to bang the safety drum to justify their existence but it is 100% about the graft.

Looks like it was a 3 day experiment and did not continue thereafter.
However, it is a smart idea.
Three more cut down in TO. Chow continues with lies "The city noted all speed cameras are located in community safety zones, like schools, playgrounds and hospitals.". For easy proof that is a lie, the parkside drive camera is hundreds of meters from the closest playground, 500m from a hospital and more than a km from a school. It is also located mid-block far from any legal pedestrian crossing zones. Motivation is 100% revenue, 0% safety. If the city considers that location to meet the criteria, it will be hard to find a single location within the city that doesn't also qualify if more revenue is desired.
She also says speed humps require community agreement. F that nonsense. If they are whining about speed and you install something to control speed, job done. The constant pandering to whiners that want to make problems and dictate solutions needs to stop. Complain if you want and accept the solution provided or keep your pie hole shut and enjoy your life.
