The only time I've had an issue with this is when im in rural country at night and there's no other traffic, in which case, just keep your eyes open, treat it as a stop sign and go when its safe to do so.
 
When I did the M Exit at Learning curves, during the in class, we we're told if you wait at a light after a few minuets (5min+) and it does not change, to treat it as a stop and run it, it is legal. Personally I don't, I've seen bikers do it, I'll turn right and do a u-turn if safe, only because I worry other's may have a dash cam and report it, a cop around, or a red light camera.

A five minute stop at a light is interminably long. Also super dangerous as you are just hanging out waiting to get punted. Honestly, if I am riding towards a red and there is very little traffic and no dividers, I just make the right and u-turn as my standard. Waiting at lights is bad.
 
Bolt a hunk of steel to the spot where you'd put the magnet.

That way, even though you're not cleaning all of those sharp pieces of metal off of the streets, you will be better able to trigger the lights.

The good part about this, is you don't then have to try and remove those sharp fragments from your magnet.

The problem is sometimes, you're four lanes over from the right turn lane.
If there's a car behind me, I will pull up and try to get them to trigger it.
Otherwise, after three full cycles, I'm going through when it is safe to do so.

Imagine the thoughts of other motorists trying to decipher some guy on a motorcycle magnet fishing in the turn lane. js.
 
Bring back the get back whips.

This picture gets bonus points for attaching it to their brake lever for extra crashiness.

Are they better now? My GL1200 would start to weave around 150kph. The one and only time I had it doing the ton I didn't think I would get it stopped in one piece. It's just too big a piece of plastic to punch a hole in the air going that speed.
 
The 1800 wing is steady and solid up to 160. After that the cruise won't set, but it's still steady till 205. The newest generation is prolly good for a little more with the streamlining Honda did.
 
Maybe an old wives tail but I have tried it and it seems to work at least sometimes.... get right above the loop, shut off the bike, hit the starter and fire it back up. Might depend on where your starter is as well....

"Driving off the surface of the roadway" or "driving outside of marked lanes" or something similar is the ticket for that.

:unsure: are you sure it is not sensing the movement of the crankshaft, it's the biggest hunk of steel on any of my motorcycles.

Driving on the sidewalk is an even better way to get their attention.
