Check the usual stuff. These go through front wheel bearings fairly often compared to other bikes. There a few rats out there but if they're taken care of, they should be trouble free for 100.000 kms or more. Mine had 50000 kms when I got it. it...
Started riding in March, then on June 30th I picked up my new BMW F800 and put 13000kms on it so far in 2.5mth :) Aiming for 20K by december. Will try to ride it until the snow comes and stays. It would be cool to know what kind of winter we will have.... If we're getting hit with a mild one...
I'll try to make it as well :). Never done any group riding. Other than together with the wife with her honda rebel, slow enough in our neighborhood that my cooling fan keeps coming up:)
Don't get me wrong, the K1300 is a very very fast bike but the difference between that and the f800r was nowhere near as drastic as I had hoped. I had it pegged open i first and second and off the redline..... In a controlled environment of course :)
I need to share/vent. It's only been 2.5 months since I got my brand spanking new F800R BMW. Since June 30th, I've clocked 8800Kms, some with 2 up touring and a solo 3300Km tour to North Carolina, going through the Blue Ridge, into Tennessee and all over the place in WV and PA. Here's my issue...

Actually I did most of it yesterday. My final destination is Raleigh, NC, but I met a friend in VA to do the Blue Ridge parkway which was dreadful as it rained and was about 13 degrees in the morning.
