There won't be much left to store if you change the gearbox oil at the same time. I used Amsoil synthetic gear lube in my R1100S - cheaper than buying the BMW oil. Mind you, pretty much everything is cheaper than the BMW equivalent. :)

With the right adapters and handlebar selection there's usually no need to trim anything. If the rise is not too ridiculous it's also possible to keep the existing cables and hydraulic lines with a little careful rerouting, too.

Look at a flat bar conversion and swap out the pegs for some Buell units, they're pretty much a straight bolt-on conversion. Those two mods should make you forget about changing rides. There's lots of info and how-to stuff on the Blackbird-specific sites like CBRXX.com.

There's usually a relay under the seat that powers the high beam. Make sure it's getting both battery power and the trigger voltage when the switch is operated. It may have a bad coil or just be stuck.
