    Conflicting laws

I've installed cameras for a living, and have CCTV installed monitoring the outside of my house - I also have dashcams in both of our cars. The bylaw (in Hamilton) is ambiguous and is obviously enforced on a complaint basis - aside from the fact that a bylaw officer would require a tremendous...

We Know you Ride, But do you Shoot?

Re: We know you ride, but do you Shoot? I think when a gang starts running around throwing molotov cocktails at my home with me in it, we've hit the threshold for REASONABLE, JUSTIFIED and NECESSARY.

We Know you Ride, But do you Shoot?

Re: We know you ride, but do you Shoot? The law is the law. Citizens are justified in defending themselves and those under their protection. http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/c-46/section-25.html Fire extinguishers don't stop arsonists.

Insurance hard to get for older bikes?

Older bikes can be a nuisance... My project bike is a '72 Honda CB350 and most insurance companies wouldn't touch it simply because it's over 30 years old. Ended up getting it insured through Desjardin at an OK rate (costs half what my daily ride costs, but also has only basic coverage - meh) -...

    Great rate at TD MM

Just got my renewal with TDMM (been with them 5 years auto, and three years motorcycle) and with no claims (Auto, motorcycle or home) my premium went from $649 to $730 a year for my Bonneville. Still better than I can get anywhere else (Next best quote I got shopping around was $1000 with Echelon).

    Lawyer to sue insurance agent

Don't know what to tell you, those are the rules. I didn't make them up. 1. Statute of Limitations - 2 years in Ontario - If you rack up 100K in debt they are GOING to sue you. Period. End of discussion, particularly if you have the assets you describe. They are less likely to sue you over...

    Lawyer to sue insurance agent

I think you are right, I thought it was 6 years but I've always said 7 years just because there always seems to be a little wiggle room between the date of last activity/default/delinquency etc.

    Lawyer to sue insurance agent

Bad debt NEVER goes away, but their ability to 'legally' report it to the credit reporting agencies DOES. After 2 years (SOL) they can no longer sue you for the debt in court (assuming no further acknowledgement of the debt on your part), after 7 years the debt falls off your credit report (both...

    Home Automation

I've monkeyed around with this stuff. I went with z-wave products (light switches, thermostat, door lock etc) and have had no issues. It's got some pretty routine functionality given the relatively high cost ($40-60 a light switch or dimmer, $200 for a thermostat or door lock, $60 for an...

You've won a cruise - please make it stop

I was getting multiple calls from these scammers on my home phone and my cell - drove me nuts. Tried pressing "1" or whatever and asking to be removed from their list, and the guy started using profanity right out of the gate. It was clear it was an overseas operation using VOIP and number...

    VPN recommendations

This. I've been with PIA for about 6 months. Reliable service, good speed and detailed setup instructions for both novices and advanced users.

Who will insure a 48 year old rider with a 1975 cb 125

Not sure, I have nothing else insured with Desjardin - just that one motorcycle. Everything else (House, cars and other motorcycle are with TDMM - but TDMM won't insure any bike more than 30 years old).

Who will insure a 48 year old rider with a 1975 cb 125

Had the same issue when I went to insure my '72 CB350 project bike. Ended up going with Desjardin as the cheapest option for bare bones insurance. Charged me $290 for the year.

    Hamilton/Niagara Safety Certificate?

I've used CRS automotive on King Street East in Hamilton a couple of times - they do motorcycle safeties but do not do any motorcycle service. Good news is they won't try to upsell you on any repairs, bad news is they won't fix any deficiencies they find.
