I ride with a backpack on everyday for work. I use it to carry my lunch and rain gear. It works fine for what it is, I just got a cheap 30 dollar one with a chest strap so the shoulder straps stayed in place. My commute isn't far though, its only 10 km each way but if I stop at a grocery store...

I agree with this. My wife was a little concerned when I first mentioned it but after talking with her and explaining its something I always wanted to do and explaining I was going to do the riding course she became ok with it. Just talk with her, she will come to her senses!

My wife doesn't ride, I am going to try to get her on the back of the bike in the spring and she if she likes it. At the end of the day I could care less if she ever takes it up.

Doing stuff yourself isn't really that bad. If this is your first attempt, try to pick up an old piece from a cycle salvage or dealer, don't spend a lot, get a broken piece of plastic. Then you can sand down, use filler, sand, prime and paint and see what works before you attempt your bike. Just...

Have you considered doing a ride along? I have been out on two of them and that made it pretty clear for myself that this would be a career I would be interested in pursuing. I figured it was better to do the ride along first than to pay out the money for the testing.
