I completed Bronze in 2019 on a 450 and Bronze again in 2021 on a 1090.
I failed on silver in 2018 on a 701. My skill wasn’t great and it was wrong bike for that class plus I knew nothing about gps.
Garmin Montana 610/680 or newer models are ideal. It’s the gps recommended to me by event...
Lots of good dirt roads in that area and around Port Perry. I have a modified version of the Bethany ride that I do and it’s good fun on the 1090. You can pm me and I can show you them sometime.
Provided covid doesn’t ruin this event among others I’m looking to build / join a team for this years event.
I have a 1090 Adventure R and a 250 xcw tpi, At this moment I’m leaning towards doing Bronze on the big bike, but if like minded riders want to do silver or gold I’m game.
I’m a 2019...
In all seriousness and in line with this thread the New 2021 690/701 are the best they’ve ever been with improved suspension and fuel injection fixes. If you are dedicated and wealthy you can definitely outfit the bike to be a do it all bike it’s a great platform minus the terrible terrible...

I haven’t ridden pencil lake road before. From you tube videos I’ve seen some big bikes go through it. I’ve ridden the 1090 on atv mud trails and gotten it in axle deep mud. Just wondering if it’s doable if anyone has recent info on it?
how noisy are trail bikes? I’m often tempted to have one for my backyard in Burlington. My property is 63x126 I feel like I would have enough space to build various ramps and tire pits. I’m surrounded by neighbours so not sure how that would fly.
Keep in mind all used bikes are experiencing inflated pricing due to covid. Something that was worth 5k last year can probably sell for 6k + right now.
The fact that you and your husband already know how to ride motorcycles means this is just a play bike vs what you already have. Paying 5k plus...
I have last years bronze route still on my gps. Might try and organize a multi day ride re-creating it. I did it on a 450exc last year but figure I can do most of it on my 1090.
