    Outboard Motor Vibration in Neutral?

Spoke to the Rigging Shoppe and they also confirmed what you said re included restrainer - thanks for bringing it to my attention! Didn't realize Harken doesn't even provide wire or connector, wow... They told to screw in the restrainer as opposed to rivet so I will have to find a Tap and Dye...

    Outboard Motor Vibration in Neutral?

I'll definitely get in touch once we are in sailing condition and planning trips - would be cool to come spend a weekend at Bronte and hang out! Interesting your engine locks in forward - I guess different models / manufacturers do different things.

    Outboard Motor Vibration in Neutral?

Nice! I'm out at QCYC on the Toronto Islands. Hoping to do more trips this year, so I'd definitely like to swing by Bronte sometime :) I wonder if we organize a reciprocal cruise with your club - I should check our schedule. Our furler stopped working last year so it was time for new (Went for...

    Outboard Motor Vibration in Neutral?

Oh cool! What harbor are you at? We briefly thought about doing transom hung, but then steering at low speeds would be a pain, and it would be less visually appealing. Inboard is nice when it works - and hopefully our fix holds up for a good long time :) I think if electric dropped down to...

    Outboard Motor Vibration in Neutral?

The boat is a Kelt 7.6. It's a very unique engine layout for sure. Often there's a mount hung off the transom, but this is inside the cockpit and in front of the rudder. Unconventional, but makes accessing the motor and steering with it at low speed very handy. Also means it doesn't get swamped...

    Outboard Motor Vibration in Neutral?

We don't remove the engine, we just throw it in reverse when its off so that it's locked down. From what I've read, many small outboards don't lock in forward gear so that if you run into something it just pops the motor up. Generally the prop force keeps it fully down in forward, but in Neutral...

    Outboard Motor Vibration in Neutral?

It locks down when in reverse, otherwise it would pop up, but in forward (and I think neutral), it's unlocked. I am pretty sure its a safety feature in case you run into something, but it's not an issue I would run into on the sailboat. Sometimes if we move forward at a few knots, and I...

    Outboard Motor Vibration in Neutral?

Good idea! Might try that next time we remove the ply (though hopefully that isn't for a good long while).

    Outboard Motor Vibration in Neutral?

Quick aside as well - has anyone ever done a mod to their outboard to prevent it from going up? We have it right in front of the rudder and if you throw it into reverse when its slightly up, it will be unlocked and shoot back into the rudder. Only happened once, but I am thinking it would be...

    Outboard Motor Vibration in Neutral?

Transom is quite wide. We have the fiberglass main section, and then marine ply painted and lightly glued to both sides as sacrificial pieces that we will replace every few years. We probably have half an inch to spare at this point for the motor mounting, so it would likely have to be a really...

    Outboard Motor Vibration in Neutral?

Yoga mat is actually genius! I will definitely try that. Thankfully the hole in the cockpit well for the engine is smaller then the top of it, so even if it comes loose it wont go far. Might bang up our nice fiberglass job though...

    Outboard Motor Vibration in Neutral?

This is why I ask the questions here

    Outboard Motor Vibration in Neutral?

Good to know vibrations are likely fine. I've had good luck with this motor and it's needed nothing but oil changes so far. We will likely put a rubber piece on the side where the screws go onto the transom mount and see if that helps even slightly. Don't use the engine much except to get in...

    Outboard Motor Vibration in Neutral?

Hey all! Friends and I just finished repairing an in-cockpit outboard engine well on our 25 foot sailboat. The mount was fully rotted away so we re-cored and rebuilt the fibreglass mount for the motor (which is a Tohatsu 6hp 4-stroke for those wondering). I don't imagine anything is different...

Resources for Electrical Knowledge, Connectors, Tools etc.

Thanks for all the tips everyone! Will check out other crimpers, and the folding over trick on small gauge wire (which is basically all of my lighting wire) might have saved me a lot of headache regarding terminals coming apart...
