YouTube is your friend. Haynes and Clymers make for good reading. If all of this doesn't put you at ease -Humber College runs a motorcycle maintainance course. Remember their courses are tax deductible because they're college courses. There's a beginner and an advanced classes.

The first thing I would consider is the fit -what's comfortable. If insurance isn't an issue -go with the maurauder, maybe a Shadow. The Vulcan 500 might be a good fit as well. Or do what I do - go to the bike show abd make a wish list -write them down and have fun shopping.

The M1 is good for 60 days and the M2 is good for up to 5 years. My suggestion is -take the course to get your M2 then, at the earliest possible time- take the M exit.
