After 2nd gear went on my CBR600 track bike, I installed the Factory Pro shift kit and it made all gear changes fell very solid and quick.

Just to clarify.... The teeth of the gears are not the issue. It is the engagement "dogs" You won't find any metal in the oil, as this wear is happens over time is a "compression" of the metal and not "fragmenting"

I am glad to hear the rider is still with us. When I saw the firetrucks, paramedics and 3 cop cars go by, I didn't have a good feeling. Then the drag racing event was cancelled and the feeling got worse. (thinking how the cops close a road when there is a fatality...) GWS.

Brand new and still the original box! This was purchased from reciprocity in March of 2007 to be installed on my CBR600 F2 track bike. Well, it never did get installed and was found during a basement clean up. $230 or best offer. PM if interested.

If you can do most of the work yourself go for it. (Assuming you have required skills and tools) If you are going to pay someone to do the work, it can be difficult to find someone to do good work at a fair price. Instead buy a bike already fixed up like this one for $4,000...

My 2 cents: I have been using only 87 octane on my 86 VFR for the last 11 years and 68,000 KM with out ANY issues. For winter storage, I use SeaFoam in the gas and I don't bother for fog the engine with oil.

After replacing second gear on my CBR, I installed a Factory Pro shift kit. If I got lazy shifting, the stiffer spring and different profile shift star would ALWYAS finish the shift. For me, it was well worth the cost. I have not mis-shifted since. (on that bike :) )

I don't think the issue is your coils. A difference of 0.17 above spec should not be a problem AND all 4 coils are the same resistance. The odds of all 4 failing at the same time are almost ZERO. I would look at fuelling. I am not familiar with the fuel injection on the R6, but a bad coolant...

For any old bike, it is a very good idea to open EVERY connector, remove any oxidation with 320 or 400 grit sandpaper on the "spade" and slightly crimp the "female" connector, apply dielectric grease, and re-connect. This will give you YEARS of trouble free running. Source: My 29 year old VFR :)

Can you still get parts for it? Items like rad hoses, rubber carb boots, fuel bowl o-rings, etc... My bike is 29 years old (86 VFR) and parts are getting harder and harder to get.
