    1st Gen SV650 Build

Thanks, I actually was thinking of doing a mesh cover on the radiator. I might make it out of perforated steel, just so I can weld it (I haven't learned to weld aluminum yet). I've moved to a new garage with better tools and space. Started fabricating some more brackets and things with my MIG...

You're kidding right? Wish I had a pool though.

Problem with steering bearings, GSXR fork swap

So I installed new races in the frame , this time by pressing them rather than hammering then in. I also removed the lower race from the stem, by cutting a slot in it carefully, then cracking the race with a chisel. Now I'm stuck with installing the lower race onto the stem. I used the old...

Problem with steering bearings, GSXR fork swap

Yeah, I did that when I installed the race.

Problem with steering bearings, GSXR fork swap

Yeah I tried a couple of hits with the brass punch and learned it was too soft pretty quickly. Luckily I bought some hard steel punches as well, and used those to drive the races out. It actually was much easier than I thought it would be. I looked at the top bearing race seat on the...

Problem with steering bearings, GSXR fork swap

I think I will ;) Just ordered a set of all balls from fs-motorcycle today. Now to what I'm not looking forward to, knocking off the old races! Picked up a set of brass drifts today, so I'll be giving that a try.

Problem with steering bearings, GSXR fork swap

As part of my SV650 streetfighter build, posted here, I had replaced the forks with GSXR ones along with a tapered roller bearing for the top, and the original ball bearings for the bottom. I had tapped the race in a bit too hard, and ended up scratching the edge of the race slightly, as seen...

    1st Gen SV650 Build

One more photo for the season: I've decided to keep it the way it is and ride it for the rest of the season. This winter I'll be fine tuning it further, along with more projects to come. In the meantime, check out my new site: http://www.motobrix.com

Low-speed wobble after tightening steering stem nut.

Weird, I just tightened my steering bearings on my SV650, and had the same thing happen. Except for me I get the wobble at very slow speeds, from a stop I can feel things are off. I'm fairly sure it's not the tires in my case, since they're fairly new, and it was riding fine until I tightened...

    Reading spark plugs

Seems like I'm trying to run before learning how to walk. In the end, I just want to make sure my engine is running reasonably well with a desnorkeled intake and an aftermarket exhaust. Yes, this will be my first time opening up carbs to rejet. I have a good theoretical understanding of this...

    Reading spark plugs

Alright thanks! I'll try checking the plugs under power as you say.

    Reading spark plugs

I recently installed a small M4 street slayer exhaust from a gsxr600 onto my '00 SV650. The bike seems to be running fine, but I figured I would check my spark plugs just to see if it's running a bit rich or lean after doing the swap. I'm assuming the exhaust flow is a bit worse since the...

    Tightening chain

How did it go? If you want some help later this week, I'd be willing to go through the process with you. I installed a brand new chain for my SV650 this summer, and just had to tighten and adjust the slack.
