The ADV market is hot: maybe the Pan America will sell well, and convince more traditional owners to try something a bit different? Baby steps.

I've never owned a Kawasaki, but KLRs have always felt like I bike I'll eventually buy. Isn't every man in his 40's supposed to buy one and bungie a milk crate to the back?

I think if you have a bike sold as street-legal from the manufacturer (which the MTO keeps a list of) ... then you may be able to go back. But if the bike isn't originally street-legal (like mine) then if you ever switch it to offroad-only again... it would be permanent like Paul said.
