Whats a good price for a 2006 650r?

Whats a good place to buy a slip on exhaust?
How do you lower handle bars (would wanna do this year 2)
Frame Sliders Good place to buy local?

What would be the best insurance place / broker to call for the 650 as a sport tourer.

Made one call was quote 2920 Full cover.

Is full cover necessary or is liability fine?

There are many options. Do the bars have risers? If so, maybe you could get smaller ones. You could replace the bar with clipons. If doing this, you might have to get a new triple clamp or live with the risers dangling free. Or you could get something like like this:

Or this:

Suburban Machinery http://www.suburbanmachinery.com/Z1000.htm makes "no rise" bars for the 650R that in my opinion were the best option. I looked at the Sport Bars v.2 and to me they looked a little cheap (powder coated steel vs. stainless). If you go with clip ons, you have to lower the triple tree, changing the dynamics of the bike as well as modifying/changing the fairings to allow lock to lock steering or else you have go under the top of the triple which to me looks ridiculous.

+1 for Riders Plus for insuring them as well!

is this your first motorcycle, sounds like it.
you should look at getting the ninja 500 or 250 both are in the same insurance bracket rate. if you do get a 500cc you can prolly get 1000$ nocked off
the ninja 250 can handle the highway good, it can be a little scary going 145km(too light) but its not so bad around 110. i have no probs on the highway.

Yeah those were options i considered. But the old 500 looks like ***. The 250 is an ok option but then in a year i have to upgrade anyway.

Since im responsible or like to belive i am. I would prolly be safe enough on it esp since its like a sv650

that seems like a high quote. last year i was quoted 2400 for a sv650. i was 19 with a M1. i decided to wait till i was 21. i figure a sv650 and a ninja 650 would be relatively the same in cost.

Yeah im going to call and check that out.. See what i get quoted for a sv650. and a 500f.

2920 is a little steep i would say.

No offense taken its not what people think looks cool but something that I care about. Like i just dont like the lines and design of the bike. Im an artsy person and theres only so much boxy ness i can take.

Same reason I got the 650R. 250R would probably need an upgrade soon esp since I'm large and heavy, do a lot of highway commuting, and would be doing a lot of 2-up in the future. The 250 is also carbed and I didn't want to have to deal with that. Didn't like the look of the 500 so went with the 650.

My insurance for now is $430/mo ($5160/yr :() but it drops to $140/mo ($1680/yr) once I turn 25 in August :). I'm with StateFarm and don't have my car with them. Also have 1 speeding ticket (no points) on my record still.

Most of my quotes were around the $2800-3200/yr range. Just call a few of the places recommended in the insurance section of this board and you'll find the best for you somewhere.

Nope. If I wasn't turning 25 in August I would be paying $5160/yr for JUST THE BIKE. Assuming I stayed with StateFarm but I would've went with a different company if that was the case.

It's rediculous but the post-25 rate with StateFarm makes up the difference. No where would let me get their cheaper insurance for just a few months until I turn 25 so I'll suck it up for a couple months. Over the whole year it works out to about the same as other quotes I was getting.

Where did you get your quote for $2330 if you don't mind me asking?

I'm keeping my car separate because I only pay ~$1380/yr with way more coverage than everyone else would offer me at way more than that. No one can touch my current rate on the car for some reason.

Man I feel bad for you young guys, I'm paying just over $1000 for full coverage on my 09 650R, and it's that high because I'm a new rider.

I'd say if you can get one for less than $5,000 it's a good deal.
Check if it needs tires and/or chain, 'cause it might if it's 3 years old and that's a few hundred extra right away.

As for insurance, State Farm seems to be the best for new riders with smaller displacement. I was quoted around $1,500 for a Suzuki GS500 and $700 for ZZR250, which I ended up buying. Full coverage, I'm over 25 with 2 minor tickets. I'm not so sure about the 650 but then again it's not a SS.
So you shouldn't have to pay more than $2,000 for insurance for a 650, no matter what, unless your record's dirty.

I'm 29 year old with a 650 ninja, no points/tickets/etc. I pay $1016 (just got the bill lol) with John Duffy (Broker)/Jevco (the ins. co.).

FWIW, insuring a 650 will cost MORE than a 600SS with state farm because they only consider engine displacement.
