Why, why, why,

I don't see anyone arguing that leaving your signal on isn't safe.

Auto-cancelling tech doesn't work all the time.

It will cancel early when you don't want it to.

That isn't safe.

It won't cancel and you won't know it.

That isn't safe.

You can't just take one use case: "It will eventually cancel" and declare auto-cancelling a safety tech, when there are other use cases that require the user to remember to either manually cancel the signal while traveling through a busy cityscape (where a lot can happen in 20-30 seconds before the auto-cancel tech kicks in), or manually check to see if the indicator is still on as intended when the auto-cancel prematurely cancels your signal.
 
My KTM ones cancel too early at times (I just flick them on again) but I’m in the habit of checking my turn signals like some kind of nervous habit as I ride regardless of whether they cancel or not. They are nice to have I guess.

lol I had a buyer for the F650GS twin before I ever realized it had self-cancelling turn signals. Only found out because a viewer told me in my comments section. Oopsie haha
 
I've had bikes with them and without them. No real opinion either way I always confirm the signal was cancelled after the turn. I will agree with other's self cancelling ones did cancel early time to time.

It's been working in car for decades. Not rocket science. If it was mandated I'm pretty sure the all those engineers could soon figure it out. Of all the tech they now install on bikes I can't believe SCS are really the edge of the envelope.

Except that it doesn't.

This video is recent, only 2 years old:


They still cancel too early (2:13) and sometimes do not cancel at all (3:40).

Try it in your car, you will find that it's your own muscle memory from decades of driving that automatically and manually fixes the self-cancelling problems that cars today still have. How many times have you seen drivers forget to cancel their signal on the highway after a lane change, driving for kms with their turn signal on because the steering wheel hasn't turned far enough back to activate the SCS?
 
Automotive SCS are not perfect and do still require manual intervention, but I would be very happy with that level of functionality on a bike

Now you're grasping at straws. Automotive stuff works well enough. it's not very often you follow a car with a blinker on, compared to almost every group or demo ride. @TwistedKestrel gets it.
