I, too, did a thing

When i changed mine it wasn’t showing any issues, was more for piece of mind
I use mine as my keychain fob. The metal on the bottom curved bit was worn down to maybe 1mm thick. This was when the bike had 7,000km on it.

I have no idea if the problem has been addressed in the 20 years since my bike left the factory, but it's a pretty easy thing to check.

All my KLR buddies in the KLusteR seem to think 65,000kms is the best before date for KLRs.
Perfect time for a rebuild. I did mine last year at about 75,000km. New 685cc piston, thermo-bob and Cogent Dynamics suspenders front and rear. Rides better than new, and is 30lbs lighter than a stock Gen 3 even with all my farkles. Total cost for parts/machining was about $2,500.

Anyway, congrats on the new bike. Keep the KLR flag flying.

Do you see much difference in the big bore kit you installed?

I burn less oil...

Maybe it feels a bit stronger, but that could just be my imagination. I went with the 685 just to stop the oil burning, apparently the 705 or 715 kits offer a more significant bump in power with the tradeoff being having to re-sleeve the cylinder. Of course, I'm running the stock pipe and a mostly stock carb, so I could probably squeeze a couple more horses out of the 685 but I happy as it is.

Damn. Nice looking killer. Enjoy. Let us know the plusses/minuses compared to your old one.
First minus - gotta stay off the jam for 1000kms.
Second minus - unlike the last one I'll probably feel a twinge the first time this thing goes down.
Third minus - filler hole has an insert which is only as wide as the pump nozzle so it's harder to see the fuel level past the nozzle.

Gadzooks, I've only put 20km on it and already issues.......
