Speed camera update (Sept.11)

What novel ideas. Facepalm. Mayors that are afraid of losing their cash cows have proposed a number of ideas on how the program can continue in a modified form. If they had implemented these options before, the chance of them getting canned would be low. It's all about the graft. Losers.

"Instead of a ban, the mayors said the province should consider implementing the following measures on ASE in school zones:

setting cameras at a reasonable threshold before a ticket is issued
time of day operations tied to school and community use times
a warning ticket issued on the first offence
a set fine that is not double due to community safety zone
large signs alerting drivers to the presence of the cameras
blackout on additional fines for seven days after receiving the first ticket"

Was just on the news that some of these tickets belong to cabinet ministers driving government automobiles

I get a virus warning that your link could be impersonating the real webpage so I won't open it.

Resistance is futile because the Province holds all the cards regarding plate and owner details. They could just shut down access to plate information for any speed camera requests for information. In addition, they could also refuse to prosecute, or simply invalidate any speed camera tickets.

Many speed camera tickets have moved to an administrative penalty to bypass possibility of court.

Removing access to plate database would be interesting. I wonder how smart alpr cameras are? Could they show the photo radar images to alpr camera and the alpr looks up the information?

Crews are back at Parkside location today. Installing a new speed camera. This time they opted for the rectangular box sitting directly on the ground, not mounted on a pole.
There is also a CCTV camera mounted at the nearest light pole l to catch perpetrators.

CCTV caught the last attack. They released the video. Probably a guy, dressed in black, waste of money.

The last CCTV was capturing from the woods. Trail cam.
This one is placed in front of it and very visible.

Same difference. It's not going to stop anyone from flipping it over.

Here's the CCTV images. Trail cam guy got his images out way before the police. Not surprising that $100 budget beats $1B public service budget.

"And you will see our presence in locations where speed cameras were targeted by vandals." Interesting. So they have enough police to watch for the people who are cutting down the speed cameras, but not enough to do active enforcement in those same areas? Sounds like they could get rid of the cameras and save a billion or so by just using those police.

I stand corrected.

So you block the surveillance camera's view first, then deal with the speed camera.

Then they'll need a camera watching the camera that's watching the camera 🤣

When the security camera is a potato (and likely cost five or six figures) more expensive potatoes won't solve the crimes.

I'm slightly surprised they haven't gone for laws for thee and not for me already and put something like tear gas/pepper spray/dye pack containers in the posts to aid in identifying suspects.

Drive by on my way back.
Looks like the base is secured with extra anchor brackets.

I give it 3 weeks.

What is taken into consideration with safety stats?

Since the ticket falls on the car owner it's a one-time financial hit. Pay the fine. If the ticket was issued by an officer the offense goes against the driver's record and attracts insurance premium increases. While the fines are above what I call pocket change, several hundred dollars to start, it hurts the lower income driver. If you've got a thicker wallet and your travel time losses cost you money it might pay to play fast.

If you get a thousand or two in tickets, possibly written off on your company car, but get to clinch a few more deals, sell an extra house or two, it could be worth it. It's time / money equation. In my case I took the 407 if it meant getting in another few hundred in service calls. It's the same deal. Pay extra to get somewhere faster.

If it was a roadside stop, there is an immediate time penalty negating the speeding advantage. Add in the ticket and subsequent insurance premium increase over several years and the roadside stop is more punishing.
