Peak Design - 40% Off Sale Motorcycle Mounts

if i didnt already have quadlock case and etc i'd switch.

peak design looks way cleaner and i like their built-in vibe dampener vs the weird space station looking thing from quad lock.

Switch before you get sucked into their ecosystem and it's too late...*cough* @Soulcatcher668

How many of you guys with Cardos still use a phone mount? I've thought about getting a phone mount in the past but I can already change songs hands free or listen to navigation prompts through my speakers so I always end up deciding against it. I guess the only real benefit would be being able to actually see your route on screen or see who specifically is calling, but at that point I begin to question whether or not I'm just creating additional distractions for myself lol

They do a good job of making things so expensive that ill just keep my phone in mah pockets and not worry about messages while on the bike

Brings me back to the old times when my main phone was a home phone and my dialup 14.4k internet would get disconnected if my mom picked up the phone
* nostalgia *

But honestly even with a cheaper mount that has cheaper dampening, if your phone is one it maybe 2-3 times during the season, would it still ruin the OIS?

Interesting, but personally I've never been a fan of the phone mounts that requires special cases - if you damage your case you need an expensive new one (vs many of the much cheaper options), plus you're stuck with only using the designs that specific company offers vs any of the thousands of other styles out there.

Myself, I'll stick with my oldschool Ram X-Grip

I bet you used a paper map too to find your way around...

Gawd... I remember my first long bike trip.
1992(?). Burlington to Ft. Lauderdale Florida.
Once unfolded I never could refold that map properly again.

pretty sure there's a universal adapter that goes on any case.

Then you're trusting your phone to a small square of adhesive though. I know a lot of the 3M adhesive pads are pretty darned amazing, but still.....trusting a $1000 phone to a small square of adhesive concerns me, probably unnecessarily, but hmm.

I am also partial to cases with some amount of rubberized grip so that I don't fumble my phone (or at least fumble it less lol), and I'm not sure they'd work on those?

Good question, dbrand makes a nice case with high friction sides so it doesn't go for a ride getting out of your pockets.

Yeah, that would probably be a good compromise. I actually had one like that back in the iPhone 4 era (the first with the candybar slab sided design) and liked it come to think of it.

Anyone have experience with the anti-vibration system on the PeakDesign?
I've heard that big thumpers (like my DR) have a reputation for killing iphone phone cameras...

What about it? I had an inline 4 1000cc bike mess up my iphone camera, prior to an anti vibration system.

I have never damaged a quad lock case to the point it needs to be replaced. That includes wiping out on a skateboard last year and breaking two ribs. Phone and case came out just fine.

As @Evoex eluded to, I am pretty deep in the quad lock ecosystem.
It is nice to have the same low profile mount on the bike, in the car and even on my desk at work. All set up to charge as well.

The case for my phone (S25 Ultra) is 50 bucks from quadlock. An otterbox, same price.

Next time you are out with someone that runs one of the systems, take a close look, I think you might change your mind.
Maybe come to a burgernight and you can even compare @Evoex and my systems.

As in, can anyone on the forum vouch for the Peak anti-vibration system working as intended?

Single-cylinder engines inherently produce more vibration than multi-cylinder engines, so if your iPhone camera managed to get fried by a inline 4, I'm a bit worried.

Not sure if I should pull the trigger on this or just go with the safer, albeit pricier choice of a GPS system.
Apparently people swear by the Hondogarage system, but I'd rather not spend $280 for just a phone mount.

Everyone's got their own comfort level with respect to risk and cost, as well as intended usage.

Good thing there are multiple options on the market for the guy that just commutes to and from work, to the next guy who regularly submerges their bike in mud and snow, and nothing on the bike or handlebars is safe from damage.

Personally, there are a lot of important things on my phone. Not just contacts and calendar, but every kind of authenticator is now tied to this device and losing or wrecking my phone is like losing my wallet. So it stays in my pocket far away from harm.

Also, in the event that I get separated from my motorcycle in an unfortunate incident involving rocks, trees and cliff edges, then it's no problem pulling out the phone with the one arm that isn't broken to call for emergency services... and a winch...

Is a phone mount on the handlebars suitable for 90% of riders. I think so.

YMMV.

If you need access to the apps and services on your phone while riding, I like the idea of a proxy screen, like the Chigee or Carpuride, which mirrors the screen on your phone via Apple Carplay or Android Auto, and communicates to your phone in your pocket or luggage via Bluetooth.

It wasn't fried using peak design. 3 different phones with peak no issues.

no clue. i ride with an iphone 13 all of the time for years and have had zero issues with OIS. this is with quad lock case + quad lock dampener and mount. but i dont have crazy vibey bikes either.

i'd be a 100% ok with also switching to some carplay proxy system but havent found one i liked yet. i want one to be super small but im pretty sure theres some minimal size constraint to the standard carplay UI that prevents that.
