Harley-Davidson Announces End Of EVO Sportster Production

So Harley's entry level bikes are gonna be water cooled parallel twins in the near future? Like I guess everyone else is doing it, so fine, but doesn't that mean they're going to be directly competing with Japanese models then? Something they have more or less avoided for very good reason?

Sportster S has flown mostly under my radar. It starts at $18.5K CDN? Who is it for? That's definitely not entry level anything

Did you ever ride one of them?
The 750’s motor was surprisingly peppy… but everything else was useless.

The brakes were the absolute worst of any bike I have ever ridden, including those with drum brakes.

The quality of the welds and fit and finish were something that a 7 year old would do with a model car kit. Just terrible.

I rode the 750 Street and wasn't overly impressed except compared to an 883 Sportster.
I think the Street Rod was going in the right direction but by then it was too late.
Quality control was always something that could be improved upon, they just gave up.

Made in China sub 500ccs if they ever show up (which I doubt).

It was probably the EVO that pulled Harley from the point of extinction
 
No real loss, a terrible bike meant for local cruising to the coffee shop, short 50km hops around town and not much else. The new "Sportster" really just carries the famed model name forward and is a better bike, albeit one that is significantly more expensive.
 
Some people just like to collect, I guess like cars
 
I've done a bunch of HD demo rides at Ride4Sight over the years but never been tempted. That said I still have a soft spot for a 883.

Me too. I remember when HD released the XLX-61 in 82 or 83 (?) and I thought it was particularly good looking. The 883 was released in 1984 and was very similar and good looking. The original 4 speed, chain driven model was a simple, stripped-down, old-fashioned motorcycle, long before "retro" was a thing.

I recall Alan Girdler rode one for quite a while and thinking if it was good enough for him it's worth a look.

Is that the reason though? US emissions standards for bikes haven't changed since 2010
