Trials lessons for a beginner?

I'm looking to broaden my horizons and try out different types of motorcycling next year. I've found places to do race (FAST school) and flat track (Go Flat Track) lessons which I'm excited about, but I'd also like to give trials riding a try.

Are there any schools where I can do a day or two of lessons for a complete beginner? I'm willing to go anywhere in Ontario or Quebec.

What no love for drag racing?

Take whatever you're riding out to St Thomas on a Friday night, pay your 20$ and see what you can do.

I was playing on a stripped down goldwing and had a royal blast. Burn out, stage, wait for the lights to drop. It was all a great rush.

Clinton Smout would be the best bet for learning the basics https://www.smartadventures.ca/.Do you have a trials bike? If you do,contact anyone in the SOCT. They will get you started. They have a free school in the spring.Everyone is divided up into groups according to skill level for an afternoon of training. SOVT

Sad that Trials is where he is.

From the SOCT site. This is what a trials school looks like.My daughter is in the blue belstaff jacket.:)

There are some really great instructors with the SOCT.Les ( in the vid) is one of them.My daughter was terrified of all the guys when i first took her out.She thought they were a bunch of creepy old men.She considers them like family now.

And once you are accepted (secret handshake ;)) with the guys. You will discover a bunch of places to practice that are off limits to anything else dirt oriented.

@Wingboy should know who to talk to. @Trials would have been an awesome resource but I don't know if he is ever coming back.
What happened to Trials? I tried searching his name but nothing... I've been away most of the summer.

He got all riled up because he attributed the wrong real world identity to a gtam user. He didnt like the real world person. He was mistaken and got called out on it. He left and never came back.

Thanks guys. I recall the CMA fiasco thread now, one guy who thinks it's awesome, thousands who say it's useless...
Guy was "interesting" lol

Thanks for the info. Any places you know that rent a trials bike and gear? I have a mesh jacket with a back and chest protector, a neck brace and possibly can use the glove as well but not sure of the helmet and boots that I currently own.

Would love to try this out sometime.

Edit: I think smart adventures have a rental program from what I read, thanks!

Yup. Smart Adv is the place. As for gear. Any helmet is good. Most trials riders wear open face lightweight trials lids. Knee and elbow pads are a good idea but not necessary or required. Jeans and a old t shirt. Learning the basics, both wheels will be on terra firma.

That's something I definitely want to try as well - I live 20 minutes from Napierville Speedway so I really don't have an excuse not to.

Awesome info, thanks! I don't have a trials bike so I'll have to rent for now.

Can trials bikes be used on off road trails? IIRC you need insurance and a plate of some sort and don’t think those have them?
