New Rider in Mississauga looking for local used motorcycle shops

Hi All,
New rider, got my M2 in just as the pandemic hit. In the market to buy a motorcycle this season and get some experience. Any rider groups in Mississauga/ Brampton area?

Also, what's a good local used bike store to check out? Was looking at Vos Motors but have read mixed reviews on this site.

Vos is okay but prices aren’t the lowest.

Maybe Snow City Marine but they are in Eastern Toronto.

Thanks Evoex. I took a look at their website, they don't seem to have much of an inventory of used bikes. Is it bad time to look for one or do they mostly sell new bikes?

There aren’t many dealers with a lot of used inventory that I’m aware of. What style of bike are you looking for?

for used bikes you're best bet is kijiji or even facebook
 
Does @Mina have stock? They are normally looking to acquire stock, not sure how much they carry.

Normally, I'd bring along a knowledgeable friend and buy private. I don't find most dealers add value to the sale and they often need to be priced higher as they have a lot of costs they need to cover and cannot get away with "tax efficiency" strategies.
 
Whats the process of buying a used bike? Asides from the payment ofcourse, what paper work has to be done and who does it have to be filed with to change ownership? I presume you could get plates from the MTO? and also, do they require insurance right away to give plates?

There's probably one or more official threads and 100 unofficial threads that go through this.

I was going to write something up but there are lots of complications that are important (like checking UVIP for a lien) so go find one of the older threads where it was thoroughly addressed.

@GreyGhost Cliff notes version:
  1. meet seller, agree on price, sign UVIP & registration
  2. bring UVIP and registration to MTO
  3. pay tax
  4. provide proof of insurance and saftey
  5. get plates and new registration
  6. win.

That is a good short list, but although legally required, I have never met a seller that had a UVIP. Also, due to the ease of making a fake one, if serious about buying, I get the VIN and buy the UVIP for $20 so I know it is legit.
 
I wouldn't buy used from a dealer. Buy from Kijiji. Bunch will be for sale when Spring kicks around.
In the mean time. Do you homework like GreyGhost suggest. Be patience but be ready.

If you want to avoid the hustle, get out of Dodge...GTA dealers will try to hose you...check out Guelph, Cambridge, Brantford, KW, Strattford, etc....

My last five bikes were bought used from dealers outside of the GTA...Buying from a dealer outside of the GTA is easy... they look after registration, typically provide some warranty...safer than Kijiji...and you might meet some honest folks...though you still need to negotiate...

If you do get something from outside of the GTA... The first ride home on your new to you bike is awesome...

Note: I do not work for a dealer or have any relationship to a dealer...

I always ask the seller to get one if they don't and remind them it's their responsibility. That saves you from waiting in line or waiting for days to get one mailed to you, during which the bike could sell. It's a lot easier for them to just get one than to make a fake one. Besides if they did provide a fake, then that's a serious offense I'm sure they wouldn't want to deal with vs. just giving you your money back.

Re: Safety; that item should be on a line of its own, "safety" refers to having the vehicle road certified by a licensed motorcycle mechanic and that is going to cost you time, money and possibly service and parts if the bike needs work. If you are purchasing from a dealership this might be included in the cost, if you are purchasing private and the seller does not have a current safety certification you will need that addressed before purchasing the plate.
 
Although a little far, Hully Gully in London usually has a large showroom full of used bikes. My buddy bought his 650 V-Strom there and they seemed to be reasonable. He was able to test ride the bike before finalizing the sale. This was about 10 years ago, so things might have changed.

There's also Two Wheel Motosport in Guelph.

Check their sites for a list of inventory.
