Caught an L with Speeding ticket (49 over)

So i caught an L and got my first ticket ever. Its a speeding ticket(49km/h over the limit). speed limit was 80 and i was going southbound from hwy 10 to 410 south. i sped up on the ramp from hwy10 to 410 south. speed limit changes from 80 to 100 there. he gave me a ticket for going 129km/h in an 80 zone. He said he caught me doing 160km/h(i dont think i was doing that, maybe 140. He was going to give me stunt driving but gave me some slack and appreciated the fact i stopped for him.
i understand i was speeding but is there anything i can do to reduce my ticket or points ? Is getting help from a paralegal worth it? Paralegal said the only thing he might me able to do for me is get the ticket reduced to maybe 3 points (29 over) or turn it into a different ticket like an illegal uturn or something. Does that even matter? since in eyes of insurance companies, a minor speeding ticket or crossing a red light ticket would be the same.
If i go in to prosecutor for early resolution, would he be discussing my original speed or the speed police officer put on my ticket.
Also on my ticket, it doesn't have the R code on it.
I just want to get the ticket price reduced and get it down to 129 if possible. I understand im responsible for it and willing to accept the consequences(insurance) that come with it.

Any suggestion would be appreciated

Oooooooo that hurt!
What about those ex-cop guys that you can hire to get you out of a sticky situation? I seen it advertised on a big billboard on the south side of the 401

Insurance company does not care about points as you said. one ticket is one ticket. Get it dropped as best you can and pay the fine.

I'm reading this thread with my girlfriend sitting beside me, who is a licensed paralegal. She wants me to let you know that whoever you spoke to didn't exactly provide you with the correct information...until you review the officers notes/disclosure you can't really make a proper determination of the outcome. He's guessing. A good representative will look for any opportunities to debunk the evidence, eg.: when was the radar last calibrated, did he properly document your info, etc.

That's a big ticket, 6 points and a huge fine. You might want to shop around and see what other paralegals have to say about the situation. But definitely have a professional fight it for you, preferably someone who works in the Brampton courts who may be familiar with the prosecutors.

It's not a minor infraction ticket at 49 over (someone feel free to correct me) and insurance company may not be pleased.

As i said in my previous post, i don't think is a minor speeding ticket anymore at that speed, i'd be looking to negotiate it down with the crown.

Depending on how much time and effort you want to put into this and how much you want to learn at traffic court will depend on your next course of action really. Can you afford to miss work to sit in court for 1 maybe 2 appearances? Do you want to work the system knowing that you may get stuck with the original charge?

30-49km/h over the posted speed limit will come with 4 demerit points. So even if they reduce it to 35 over , it will still be the same ticket.
If he gave me 50 over, then it would be considered major. I feel like if i give a lawyer 1000 dollars just to take a ticket out of my system, i dont even think im gonna be paying that much to my insurance with that on my record.
A lot of people been telling me is that all these paralegal/lawyers do is they go in to the court to plead guilty to make that extra cash.
This one counts in caledon, not brampton. Anyone got good paralegal contacts i can get in contact with ?
Let me know please.

Yes thats what the lawyer i talked to said as well but he said in all honesty , it wont get dropped.

The original charge is what scares me. What if they end up charging me with stunt driving? or on that original speed as the officer stated 160 km/h
Also, i checked with my insurance, its gonna be counted as minor conviction

Search the forum there used to be a good paralegal called charged.ca. They helped a lot of folks on this site back in the day.

IMO stay away from those xcopper types unless you like burning $100 bills at will.

What would you do if you were me

So the current insurance im with:
i pay $230 per moth
comes with one minor conviction protection

New quote i just got on my insurance
$150 per month
does not come with minor conviction protection
insurance may increase to 17% next year (insurance broker stated) once they find out about the ticket on renewal so that will be around $180 per month

Would you stick with $230 per month or switch to new insurance? im thinking about switching to new insurance.

Okay so there's 2 plays here:

  1. Fight it and hope to get a win via a few avenues
  2. Negotiate with the crown, aim to get the ticket switched to a different charge or lower the speed, either way you'll get a lower fine and points.
If who charges you? The charges have already been laid and they are for speeding 49 over.

If the officer did not indicate 160km in 80 and showed it reduced (with the R) then what he said at the stop doesn't matter going forward. If he wrote R on the ticket and you fought it, then they would jack it up to the noted original speed.

Seems like the new quote is the better plan, even if the increase is twice the quoted % it would be less. You are also under no obligation to disclose the ticket to them until after conviction (even then most people stay silent and pray they don't run a check on your licence and find it). When they do they may/may not increase at next renewal.

I would not have spoken to my insurance company unless you spoke to your broker who you trust not to say anything. Likely they will flag your policy and run a check on it to see if you were convicted. Always best to be quiet and if you get a ticket don't change anything regarding your insurance as that may trigger a check on your license for tickets. You may get lucky and they don't do a routine check for a few years so you may avoid any increases. Not a guarantee but you need to keep odds in your favor. Good luck.

My broker is pretty cool and they said they might not even do the check when its renewal.

Yeah seems like im gonna go with the 2nd option and just try to reduce it as much as i can.
Oh ok i thought they would be discussing the 160km/h , could be that he forgot to put an R on my ticket.

..., could be that he forgot to put an R on my ticket.

Cops don't forget about stuff like that, he's probably cutting you a break by leaving you an out and if he doesn't show up for your court date even better.

This is not the speeder you are looking for, move along!

Man, I was debating on getting back into street riding then I saw this thread.

**** that! Never had a speeding ticket but I really don't like the idea of how many ****** up speed zone drops exist.

I always wondered - when you meet the crown in an early resolution meeting, do you admit to the charge when plea bargaining? And if you can't reach a mutually agreeable plea and opt for a trial, can they use what you said against you?
