CB500x .....in my near future?? Thinking out loud.

It is ... ...damned if I can find a 2017 cb500x pictured with factory luggage
Maybe now the internet is functioning properly

sort of

over priced I think

That's good news on the seat ...I'd rather not chase seats again.
My 2 favorite are in this thread, I have the Givi V35 only because they are cheaper.

Yeah ...way more than I need.... I do like a top load.
I'll wait until less the dealer gives me a silly good price on the side cases.
I have top case.

Top loading is definitely better. Those cases you should in a previous post look like you lose about half the case for storage if you want to use the straps. Not always bad though if you can get bags that fit perfectly in those side cases. On my first GS I had the side loading panniers but had bags made for them so I would fill the bag and then put them in the cases and not have any issue with stuff falling out when open. Still not the best solution especially if you want to grab something out quickly while on the road but makes them a little more livable.

How do you like the Tourance on gravel? On the ape, when you got into loose gravel I didn't like how they felt.
I have a set of Metzler Tourances on my VStrom -- they are awesome on asphalt but I find them a bit slippy if the road is loose - id say they are for 100% road use. I had RP4s prior, Id say the are about the same.

I have gone through many sets of Tourances on my last few bikes, they are certainly not a 100% road use only tire. They are the standard tire that comes with most GS's. I found them to be a good tire on gravel and dirt roads and I am not expert at off road riding, they always felt good and gave me confidence. I have recently switched to Anakee III's to give them a try as they are supposed to last a bit longer.

I will likely ride out the stock tires then switch to K60s for stability in gravel and durable wear.

Good looking case

Congrats on the new Honda, I'm sure you'll enjoy the lighter weight and fuel economy!

Get some nice footpegs, like the SW Motech ones and the rally raid clutch levers, they make a world of difference in feel. Also if you even order anything from the Rally Raid UK site let me know, maybe we can pool and split the customs/shipping, since that's the killer.

Not sure why the CB you posted above looks so ADV ready, and then the owner doesn't bother with a skid plate

Those are two big factors weight and range.
Seating too.

Treating myself as likely last bike and have never bought a new machine in 50+ years of riding
and will enjoy farkling it

I'll be 5 years in Canada then move to Australia. Get a Versys X for there,

If you are long distance touring I would look at adding an electronic cruise control. Looks like there is some options out there for that model, though not cheap. One of my favourite feature on those long days. Gives your wrist a break as well and makes a huge difference when racking up the miles.

This is actually an Australian company, not sure if they are close to where you are but might be worth checking out

I like the seating, with my last SV650, after a few days commuting or a day ride up north i'd be sore or have to stop and stretch every fuel up. With the X, I just move positions on the seat, and after a few weeks commuting, look forward every ride.

I had the SW Motech bars on mine, one of the bolts that mounts it to the frame/engine broke, in the engine casing! This is apparently common, and I just spent 7hrs+ trying to get it out, ended up drilling through the block and putting a nut on the other side. So be careful with crash bars, CB doesn't have very many independent mount locations if any, every bolt is critical. If the bolt snapped of while I was on a trip, i'd be screwed, literally. And the bike only has 6.5K kms.

EDIT: For a throttle lock, maybe try this, I just ordered one...

Cruise control for $1000!!!+ that's 15% of the bike cost!!!. My $30 GoCruise is just fine :D

Yes that's what I use now...a lot of the touring bits from the front of the CBF will move over.

Black metal cases looks the shiznit, but in the hot sun it tends to cook the contents inside real good and will burn your skin if you touch it.

We recently switched to bare aluminum. Not as cool-looking, but stuff inside stays cool.

Tru dat'. Would get covered in stickers anyways. :)

Which bikes do you have these bare aluminum panniers on? Did you happen to buy a pair of CB500X's?
