Best time to buy gear after Winter ?

Hi Guys,

In the market for some new gear. Still deciding between a textile and a leather jacket. Also need a new helmet.

Wondering if there ever is a time when stuff goes on sale or do I just keep an eye out for specials like GP bikes has ? Not sure if there are spring sales, or even if they're any good.

I'm guessing end of riding season is the best time, but I already missed that boat. Can't wait till the next season because I have no gear for the coming season.

Planing to swing by GP bikes and Royal Distributing this week.

Thanks!

The bike show coming up in a week at the International center will have a fair bit of clearance stuff if your looking for deals. selection is what it is.

Have you looked at Re-Gear in Oshawa? They have some nice used some and plenty of their new products are marked way down.

Actually, I did recently found out about them. I see a ton of ads by them on Kijiji. Have you bought anything from them ? I was a bit skeptical about that store, because no one i know ever bought anything from them. I might check them out, on my way to GP and RD.

Either the spring show which is in 2 weeks, or the "tent" sales that happen sometime in summer at both GP Bikes and Royal Distributing. Note when the show is on, the stores might also discount things things (I recall in the past GP doing not HST for bike show weekend or similar).

Thanks. Spring show seems like a good bet, especially given it's next week. Can't wait till summer, unless I buy something used off of kijiji for now. I missed out on a really good leather jacket deal on kijiji :(

to each his/her own
but I know my gear can get.....lively
not big on the idea of someone else's funk

jacket? maybe
boots, helmet and gloves? not a chance

lol agreed. I would never buy pre-owned boots, helmets or gloves. Jackets, I'm only looking for like-new, used for less than one season. It's very easy to tell, especially with leather jackets. Had found one where the guy used it less than 10 times. Smelled like new leather. I negotiated too much for too long, and missed out.

I bought like new mesh jacket/pants combo for $120, gf got a jacket with tags on for $80. It's worth browsing for a bit, might save yourself some dough.

The shows are usually good for deals but last year GP bikes wasn't at the show so hopefully they run their deals at the store.

Thanks. Will keep an eye out.

Does anyone know if their no HST events exclude Alpinestars textile and leather jackets ?

True, but the stuff at re-gear, much of it is brand new old stock bought wholesale. I get most of my dirt bike stuff there.
The used and consignment stuff there - take the bike course at Durham college, or rti, decide you don't want to ride, unload your newly bought one weekend used equipment at Re-Gear.

Sweaty old kijiji boots? No thanks.

I just wanted to clear up some misconceptions about the store. 80% of the store is new product. We buy liquidation, close-outs, last years items.
We only buy items if they are on a deal, so we become a hit and miss type of store. We don't sell used helmets. 60% of the people taking the motorcycle course never go beyond an M2 so lots of the items people bring in, jackets, gloves etc. are hardly worn. I know a number of people from here have stopped by our store, I just didn't want the rest to get the wrong impression of the store.

For pre-owned gear there is a place outside Cambridge just off the 401 called 2nd Gear Motorcycle Culture in a small town called Ayr. Saw it on Kijiji. Just to note I have never been at the store or bought anything online, hopefully a member can say more. Doing a little homework can stretch your hard earned motorcycle dollar without compromising the level of gear you want. later

btw i will definitely be hitting re-gear this spring/summer

What's up with these sport leather jackets by Dianese and Alpinestars ? Tried on a few, and found them extremely snug. Movement was super constricted making it very uncomfortable. I usually wear a size 42 (US). Tried on 44 and 46, all were tight near the biceps and chest. Oh and the length is so short. Decided to get a textile jacket instead. Much more comfortable and light on the wallet.

Icon leather jacket, on the other hand, was much more comfortable ... relatively speaking.

Side note: I confirmed with a sales rep at GP bikes, they will be at the moto show next week, but there won't be any apparel. Also, their next "no HST" sale event may be end of spring.

Also, Royal Distributing will have their tent event end of April around 25th I think.

^^ ever visit Europe RR?
don't think they've discovered food yet

lol makes sense I suppose. Icon, being an American brand, has a better, more comfortable fit. Though I have to say those Italian leather jackets do look and feel slick. Pity I won't be able to fit into one anytime soon, or perhaps never.

On the bright side, my wallet is safe.
